Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Why?

Robin Hanson asks why:



...lowering import tariffs and immigration restrictions would help Africans at a far lower cost to us than most direct donations. Yet direct donation activities usually get far more attention in most discussions of what we here can do for them there. Why?

Because it's both easier to understand by the "rock star mentality" set and, for the left, intentions are what matter, not actual results.

Next thing you know, they would all be working at factories without union representation or farming without EPA guidance. Can't have that.

Liberals love to feel good about themselves by spending other peoples money to do good. They believe that doing good at somebody else's expense demonstrates their moral superority.
