Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

How can Obama expect me to view him as my President? Appalled by the O's divisiveness

The attack-dog presidency: two liberal Democrats denounce Obama for "pitting group against group for short-term political gain that is exacerbating the divisions in our country"

The man is not behaving well, and his behavior does not reflect well on the office he holds. He should know, at least, that if there needs to be any nasty and dirty lashing out, it ought to be done by somebody other than the president.


Americans do not want to make an idol of a president, or of the office, but I think they like to feel that the prez aspires to be the president of all the people, even those who hold policy differences.


Is the mask slipping, revealing an inner anger, a coldness, a disrespect for the American people, and an indifference to truth?


Or is it just Chicago gutter politics, brought to a national stage?


Whatever it is, it is not seemly - and I think it is disturbing to the country. It certainly is disturbing to me to learn that "our" Prez regards me as more of an enemy than he does Ahmadinejad.


And, if he views me that way, how can I be expected to view him as my President?

It's not either/or, but both/and.

It is also the behavior of someone, to plagiarize Mark Cuban, who had never managed even a Dairy Queen. Managers at any level learn that even-mannered but assertive temperaments will get more accomplished than screaming or personal attacks. Obama has so little experience running anything that he never learned that simple truism.

Campaigning is what Obama had been successful at before 2009, and in campaigning, mud slinging is taken for granted. Ironically, with his "bring us together" shticks during the 2008 campaign, Obama may have slung less mud during the 2008 campaign than he did when he was in office. He has simply stepped up his post-2008 campaigning a notch. Or, now that he was elected, there was no need to pretend to be Mr. Nice Guy. Obama has definitely strayed from his "bring us together" themes of his 2008 campaign.

Nixon used Spiro Agnew as his attack dog, assisted by William Safire's impeccable wordsmithing. It is difficult to imagine Joe Biden as an attack dog. Joe reminds me not of an attack dog, but of a slobbering, not too bright Spaniel -or whatever dog breed you consider friendly but not too bright.

[For those who cared to dig, there was enough out there about Obama's playing hardball, such as his treatment of Alice Palmer in his initial run for the State Senate. The Chicago Trib had an article on that in 2007, IIRC.]

Obama's opponent in his run for the federal senate is also marked --his opponent had a divorce in hbis history, including some testimony sealed by court order due to it's besmirching both hub and wife (they were going as a couple to strip clubs, iirc) and being thus harmful to the couple's small children.

Somehow, the records leaked to the press --and the opponent was finished. I may have some details wrong, but the gist of it is, sealed court records fell into Obama's hands, and Obama either used them in the press, or used tham as blackmail.

--either way, it worked.

Obama does not know what the OFFICE of the Presidency is. Truman (who I do not think highly of) did understand. Truman said of MacArthur that he could do that to Harry Truman but not to the President of the US.
During Obamas campaign I asked what would be the result of people voting for him because of his race and then his presidency being a failure. I guess we're going to find out.
