We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
POWER. Orwell wrote about it in (i)1984(/i) and had it right. Power and money over the rest of us, a small group of elites at the top who care not whether we live or die or suffer, and that's proven by every totalitarian regime, and all leftists are the same in this, just the degrees are different.
Now, why people grow up to want to be wolves and lord it over others is for a psychiatrist or someone smarter than I to figure out. But by definition, there is something wrong with these folks, that they can't abide by leaving others alone, and feel the need for power over others in order to be happy themselves. There is some need to swim in other's misery in order to feel a perverse pleasure.
Thanks for the linkage. Y'all at Maggie's do a great job.
"They", meaning the current Administration, want more than that. They want to nationalize the energy industry, which is why we had the punitive six-month moratorium on Gulf oil drilling. Anyone who believes Ken Salazar when he gloats about "strict new drilling regulations" is quite terribly naive. The start-ups of new drilling platforms are not going to take weeks. They're going to take months, now that the governental amateurs have got their slimy fingers in the pie.
The petroleum exploration and production industry is already one of the most heavily regulated and tightly controlled areas of commercial activity in the United States. And in spite of these regulations, American companies still manage to produce petroleum and natural gas at reasonable costs.
So the Liberals are going to do another one of their tap-dances --- invent a "crisis" and then offer to "solve" it. The last big crisis invention was American health care, arguably already the best in the world. So the Liberals "solved" it with the appalling healthcare bill.
I dread to think what they'll do with the energy industry. We've already invested in a whole-house natural gas generator to protect us in the next hurricane "crisis."
