We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Rather, I think he's trying to be objective and not attribute motivations he can only speculate about - regardless of how obvious those motivations may be. In that respect, Stossel is a rarity in the media.
Do not be so quick to let big insurance companies off the hook. Despite some political name calling, obamacare is the work of the health insurance industry as well as large parts of the medical field. The large players are looking to government to endow them as public utilities.
I know Big Insurance got pulled into Demcare planning to some degree. If so, they designed the very trap in which they will be squashed. Tied the snare they've run into. Spun the very rope that will hang them. Any other metaphors?
Stossel isn't addressing whether Demcare was ever supposed to work in this piece. He is addressing the fact that it will produce disastrous results that are almost completely different from the ones promised -- and that any thinking person could see it would happen.
