Got off the phone with a friend who lives in NYC. "Every time f-ing Obama comes to town, it's a mess. They shut down midtown, you couldn't get a cab. After my meeting, I had to walk, tried to go into the Waldorf to take a leak and have a cocktail, but they had State Dept. Security cops with scanners at the door. Wouldn't let me in. Pain in the ass."

Says I, "New York is probably the only place so jaded that, when the President visits, all people do is bitch about the inconvenience."

Of course, all the cops etc were also there to protect Ahmadinejad. As has been asked, how come he doesn't get arrested when he's here?

That malignant dwarf, Ahmadinijad, should not be allowed into our country. The solution is to throw out the United Nations, which has become so depraved, and not united in my lifetime, and has been such a societal burden that it requires us to admit disgusting failed dictators like Ahmadinijad and Hugo Chavez to our wonderful country every few years so that they can diss us and plan our downfall. The League of Nations was bad enough in its slide into hatred and depravity. The United Nations is infinitely worse.

We countenance our own destruction via political expediency. Move the UN. Let it settle upon some country more compliant, and complacent, to its bullshit. It no longer has a place, here.

Fifth avenue from 51st to 54th was barricaded this afternoon and the numerous snarling cops would not say why. Never have I seen so many fuming New Yorkers. I came out of the Matisse show at MOMA to this mess at 3:45.

I was locked down in my building lobby for 20 minutes, and stuck on Lexington for another 15.

As we all waited and complained, I said "It's not like we're being held hostage for a bunch of thieving thugs, enriching themselves at the expense of the productive and the very poor. Think of all the good the U.N. has done!"

I got a good laugh from my fellow hostages.

Ahmadinejad has some form of diplomatic immunity while here, I'm sure. Before we get busy arresting him, let's remember there are clucks who want to arrest both Bushes and Mr. Clinton.
The UN is a seething bed of hypocrisy, of course. Hypocrisy is the homage that vice pays to virtue. If nations like Iran and Saudi Arabia get exposure to the concepts of liberty and cooperation, and if they have to go through some motions about liberty and cooperation, we may hope to plant a seed. The UN has had sixty-five years to counter 10,000 years of nation-states in rivalry. It may take a while yet.
Someone once said a church full of sinners was working like a hospital full of sick folks. Same idea.
