We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

A dynamite op-ed about the MSM and related topics

At the Canada Free Press, The Media Loses Readers and Viewers to its Own Radicalism: The problem with the American media is that it doesn't speak to Americans. One quote (but read the whole thing):



The left’s hijacking of American culture has turned institutions into rags and rubble, and it will only get worse. Because the left does not know when to stop. Does not understand that it should stop. That is why left wing revolutions that do succeed, eventually culminate in multiple levels of purges that exterminate many of the original revolutionaries, or send them off to fight and die somewhere else, turning them into convenient martyrs who look good on blood-red T-shirts.


Obama’s vision of the media was as purveyors of his talking points. To that end he kept it at arms length, even while using it non-stop to promote himself. By turning the media into his publicists, he helped accelerate a rapid slide that had already been under way, ending any real distinction between news and celebrity news, between opinion and reporting, and between the liberal media and the liberal government. And when Ezra Klein tried to occasionally draw a line between themselves and the politicians they cover, it was a line that was no longer there anymore, because the media had found its mission in the advocacy of liberal domestic and international policies, of convincing the public that their political way was best.

Yeah, I know, been said before, but....

We need to STOP referring to these people and organizations as "liberal". They are not liberal in any legitimate sense of the word. They are, at best, authoritarians. Many are worse.

Seems to be part of politics to seduce the media weenies.
Problem is not to get "McCained."

On further thought, maybe we at Maggie's are media weenies too....naw, we aren't. We have real jobs.

Interesting thing about the "mainstream" media. Over the weekend we had between 300,000 to 500,000 American citizens turn up in the nation's capital for the Restore Honor rally -- folks who were courteous, polite and non-confrontational and mostly cleaned up their own mess afterward, and The Houston Chronicle, our only daily newspaper in the fourth largest city in the country, didn't even run a story about the meeting.

That's one of the major reasons why the country's daily print newspapers are in a death spiral. Instead of presenting the actual news, they choose to function as fan magazines for the radical Liberals. They've gone from "if it bleeds, it ledes" as a mantra to "let's protect our chosen leaders at all costs."

This isn't being a *journalist" as they like to dub themselves. It's not even being a reporter. It's being a shill, a shill for a party and for representatives of that party. I would trust a supermarket-tabloid sooner than I would trust The New York Times. After all, it was a supermarket tabloid that reported, accurately, that John Edwards had a long-standing mistress and a cute little baby.

Meanwhile, there's a real world full of real people out here. And these so-called newspapers don't belong to it any more than Hollywood does.

Yes, Marianne, and the one thing you didn't mention is that they are not the least embarassed by it, either. When Bush 43 was in office, at least they gave lip service to a "commitment to aggressive journalism" and "serving our readers" even as their fortunes and readership declined. That rhetoric, regardless of what is was worth at the time, is non-existent today. From the NYT to your local daily, they are just flat-out propagandists and proud of it.
