Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Some recent surveys have calculated there could be as many as 100 million Chinese Protestants. That would mean that China has more Christians than Communist Party members, which now number 75 million.



Perhaps governments cannot really replace God - as much as they might like to.

Throw in the Catholics, and this is a big Christian Church, maybe bigger than the Christian Church in Western Europe. It will become very interesting if the Communist party ever gives up its interference with the various denominations, especially if it allows full communion between the government controlled Catholic Church and the Papacy.

The potential addition of nearly a billion Chinese to the roughly two billion current Christians will have profound effects on the whole Church. Along with the Africans and other Southern believers, they will bring new readings of the Bible and new understandings of the Tradition. This might be enough to jump-start the ecumenical movement, which the radical lefties have all but killed.

I'm sure it will also bolster the fight against Islamic fascism, in that there will be louder voices that won't cower down to atrocities like the 9-11 mosque.
