Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

What America needs is a good 15-minute ceegar

A friend handed me one of the short box-pressed Padrons yesterday, and I burned it this morning. Delicious. They are not too easy to obtain, and not cheap at all. Davidoff's has them in NYC.


Ah, the Havana Club.


With all of the rules about smoking these days, short cigars will be a bigger thing. What do y'all like in short ceegars?

Davidoff Long Panatellas is my usual smoke or if I'm in the mood for a larger, more full bodied cigar the Kinky Friedman Texas Jewboy.

Don't blame me for the name - Kinky named them - I just smoke 'em.

That's a pretty bad name, I'll hand you that, but I'd match it against the brand of speakers I had years ago. It was the name 'Friedman' that reminded me of them.

They were custom made by a guy named Irving M. Fried. He thoughtfully put a little metalic sticker on the grillclotch denoting his company.

The sticker said "I. M. Fried".

Little plug for my cigar shop in Tampa, www.tampahumidor.com has plenty of Padron. Prices are about the same because the Padron family doesn't like to discount, they are supposed to be here sometime this year for a smoker. Tampa used to be the cigar capital and still has a lot of cigar history. If anyone listens to Cigardave on AM radio. He broadcasts from Tampa. Just don't believe everything he says. It is sponsored by cigar makers after all.
