Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Futbol QQQ

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I assure you, it's much more serious than that.


Billy Shankly, quoted in a post about Soccer at American Thinker. My view is that soccer is good fun to play, but watching pros play is like watching paint dry.

The area I am from played a lot of soccer. As an undergrad I played in a weekly pick-up soccer game from June to December, until there was too much snow on the ground- ice was not considered an impediment. Sunday morning soccer provided the break for getting through a brutal lab course- 5 credits which took 25-30 hours per week.

While I would rather play soccer than play it, I have played enough soccer to enjoy "watching paint dry." Not that I watch much of any sports these days. More fun to read blogs.

I would support Argentina after the US in this match but for Maradona. Damned if I will support a team coached by a fan of Hugo Chavez (hincha de Chavez).

Barrister, do folks actually pay lads to play organized sockher.

We use to play organized sockher in grade school but it wasn't considered play by us lads because, we had no choice.

Plus, it didn't make sense to "play" sockher when the girls weren't included in the sport.

But again, it ain't really sport if'n lads are commanded to play under penalty of severe censure.

Now that penalty of censure is established, it must be sport and play only for dinkus instructors who's laughter wasn't happy but diabolic.

Yes methinks, sockher instructors giddy as goats 'mounted bupkis in us lad's estimations.

Soccer like watching paint dry? I think not.

On the other hand there are a whole slew of sports like Baseball and Basketball that fall into the "I'd rather lift the carpet and watch the floorboards warp" category.

So as much as I love Maggie's Farm, you are way off beam here.

Although soccer is not my game I do not have a problem with the coverage it receives at world cup time. After all the 26 soccer fans in Canada and the 211 in the USA deserve a bit of consideration by the sports media don`t you think?

The world loves football,America doesn't....so don't watch. I enjoy footie ( I'm from Liverpool so its a birthright thing) but I;m a lifelong packers fan too...I just like sport .
