Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Got 100 years left?

Making money without working. I have not made a penny in my retirement account for 10 years. It is mostly equities. The long view, from Tiger. Probably just tracks inflation, but what do I know?

Ditto. Went all cash & CD middle of April. Came within about 6 - 8 % recouping all portfolio balances as they stood in Summer 08.

It makes you wonder why somebody didn't think to invest a crummy penny when Christ was born.

The interest could fund all the world today. Nobody would have to work.

Yes BD, I'm sure she's right. Neither would I. Now. But in the days when sanity prevailed, and the free market was still relatively free, she would have. We did. And if we can bring at least a degree of sanity back into Congress and the Government in general, in 2010, and maybe in 2012, and keep them from sliding their grimy paws into the private business of Americans, perhaps the Market will become at least freer again.

I pray every day for that.

Meanwhile, if I lived Up North, I'd be investing in Lobster futures. It'll be quite a long time before the Gulf of Mexico is clean again.
