Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Taking offense

Taking offense, these days, seems to confer the moral authority of sacred victimhood rather than to identify one as a hypersensitive twit, as a disguised bully, or as a manipulative schemer.


I don't know how that happened, but two can play: Offense works both ways.

Barrister ... Yes indeedy. Great sentence. The "hypersensitive twits" and "disguised bullies" can always turn their backs instead of using their weak-mindedness to try to bully the rest of us. I've always thought of them as professional pouters, myself.

There used to be a saying, "A gentleman is someone who never takes offense."

Don't know what happened to that saying.
