We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Zinnís wretched tract, A Peopleís History of the United States, is worthless as history, and it is a national tragedy that so many Americans have fallen under its spell. It is a political cartoon which even the socialist magazine Dissentdescribed as an intellectual fraud, which it is. All Zinnís writing was directed to one end: to indict his own country as an evil state and soften his countrymen up for the kill. Like his partner in crime, Noam Chomsky, Zinn was a wicked man and his lifeís work was a pernicious influence on the young and ignorant, with destructive consequences for people everywhere.
Sorry guys, but your buddy Horowitz just doesn't get it. Zinn wrote his history book to reveal that American might isn't ALWAYS right. America is on an even par with China, Russia and every other country that wreaks war and destruction to further its fortunes and influence across the globe. I see your regular tribute to Jesus and Christianity here on Maggie's, but what did Jesus say about gaining the world and losing your soul? I can't recall the exact quote, but it was a good one. Greed is the cause of all the misery, and stealing from each other, or from other countries, is the common result of worshipping this impermanent world, instead of knowing your immortal soul.
Stick to one topic at a time, Tom. It makes for clarity of expression. When you quote the Bible, it's usually pretty easy to actually look up the words on the internet. They have these cool things called search engines now.
As to the content, yes that's the story a certain type of leftist always tells himself, that America is just overrun with people who believe it's perfect and has never done anything wrong. Thus any amount of excoriation and hyperbole are not only justified but applauded as a great public service being done for the world.
Dear Village Idiot, or perhaps you are only his assistant, too bad I caught you in a bad mood. You should meditate to strengthen your rightest resolve of America's superiority. Your mantra is "Kill"... repeat "Kill"... repeat "Kill"... repeat...
The knuckleheads riff off my internet handle with surprising frequency. Making fun of people's names was considered very clever in 6th grade, I recall. Please keep going Tom. We'd all love to hear what you have to say.
I'm not making fun of your name... your moniker, whatever, at all. I only responded to you with the only title you've given here for yourself. I don't think it is childish or 6th grade to call you "Village Idiot" if that's what YOU are already calling yourself. Anyway, back to my original statement... Howard Zinn believed in peace. He thought peace was far more productive and positive than war. Nation building and sable rattling only ever profits the guys in the business of war-for-profit. Again, Horowitz just doesn't get it... about Zinn... or what is real. What Jesus said about losing your soul was very true. If you embrace this world and fight or kill in your efforts to conform the world to your desires, your soul has gone ignored and unrealized. Thus, you yourself become what the world is, just a fleeting mirage and worthless dust. Nobody is reading any of this... just me and you. I wish you peace and happiness, which is your true nature. America is not going to provide that for you, nor any other "victorious" nation.
