Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Architect du Jour: Royal Barry Wills

If you live in a Royal Barry Wills (1895-1962) house in New England, you are lucky.


Wills was a Boston architect who specialized in accurate reproductions of Capes, Saltboxes, and Colonial houses - the sorts of homes which might be bungalows, ranches, split-levels or God-knows-what elsewhere in the country.


This site discusses his architecture.


I was interested to learn that the firm Royal Barry Wills Associates is still in business.

strange but true...in the mid 1930's a hurricane brought down a prodigious quantity of cedar in maine..mr wills designed a cedar shed manufactured by walpole woodworkers inc. and still made today with the same specs although the cedar from the mid 30's was old growth and much more rot resistant than the forested cedar used today. many of the original sheds still exist around the boston area.
