Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Wednesday, December 2. 2009I question the timing, #2I was being facetious yesterday about Climategate and Palin, but not today: is the Afghanistan "plan" timed to provide cover for health care? Sort of a wag the dog thing? Am I getting smarter about how pols manipulate us, or am I getting paranoid? Or both?

Dear BD:
You are right to become alert to the patterns of manipulation--they do them and they try to take away our country, our constitution, our rights, etc. HOWEVER, moving more men into Afghanistan is about stimulating the economy--it is also about the fact that thanks to some friends of ours, the world's most debilitated and corrupt country (Pakistan) has the bomb. I would think we are a little concerned about that--given that the Taliban seeks the quickest way for most people to see Allah! Couldn't agree with you more, BD. Right out of the left wing, Commie party playbook. Diverting the people's attention while consolidating power has always been a left wing/CPUSA tactic. Moral of the story: Never take your eye off the main ball in the air, which at the moment is Obamacare.
Climategate, Palin, and Afghanistan will be what they will be but Obamacare is the main objective. These people are willing to walk the plank for this disaster, hard as it may seem to believe. If it happens, it must be undone by whatever means necessary by the next Congress and President. Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean somebody isn't out to get you. :>)
Heck - why shouldn't be it a distraction - the seat is cold in the outhouse and it's not corn floating down there - it's most of his agenda. BD,
Both are correct. The issue is which realization came first. Distraction(s) play an important in a politician's armament collection. I'm getting seriously concerned for my good neighbours "south o' the 49th". I also know the fallout will hit on our side of the line, as well. These are not good times. I still have my questions unanswered, so to refresh, I will pose them again....for reference, see the link.
1) How long to you plan to ban M--a? Indefinitely? 2) How long did prevoius bannings last? Or is the H--u who posts here on occasion not the real H--u (as I suspect) 3) Who else has been banned? oh, and a new one...Which words are we not allowed to say, M--a or H--u? Or are there other Bozo-no-nos from which we must refrain? I'll try again...and save it this time...
Where did you go to school? That "response" does not address my questions. Either show some cajones or, uh...not. Which raises another question...your use of the royal "we"...Are all the Farmers in agreement on this? Or is it just a few of you? I find it amusing how many of you are so easily off-the-cuff in how the world should be run but you react like typical bureaucrats when you're in charge. BD,we're coming up on three weeks of a cooling off period.
How long does a cooling off period last? Your silence creates hassles. I received my bonus check this year. 63 cents is not what I had in mind, especially coming from a Centrist site. Here's my Christmas list this year. I want them all BACK, even the H man. I want a hippopotamus, that song is neat. Now take off your Beretta coat and work on the problem. Thank you, Your Chairman. Careful with the impertinent questions there jappy. I done already got my up there comment deleted from rightcher once today. They's a mighty rascally bunch...only a hippopotamus will do...well, maybe a stack of turtles...
Uhh.. What is this odd subtext all about? Just curious.
I don't have a clue. Dale,
Someone lost her cool a little (though there was escalation on both sides) and The Farmers decided to ban her. (I don't think we can say her name as the spam filter will fitler her out, but her handle was M-t- or -e-a or some logical-or of these two). The banning has been in effect for about three weeks and the authorities here will not respond to requests for more info. One other poster got banned also for sticking up for her. Went by his real name of L-th-r (the L in MLK Boulevard). At the time The Farmers threatened to cut off all comments. As is there perrogative, but certainly not in keeping with the values they profess to believe in. See the Indian Pudding link at left for some reference. One of the main complaints is that when people post comments, sometimes their posts get deleted with no justification given. Other times, The Farmers remove their own embarrasing posts. Problem is the editorial button is only on one side here, resulting in things appearing out of context and more one-sided than they really are. For example, this post could very well disappear and you will never see it.

Sorry BD, but I have to intrude here. I am easily the most cynical and paranoid poster here. (besides a few sock puppets, but those are just the acidic divisions of a diluted MP psychopath) I embrace my lunacy. Here's why:
Cicero said it best: Who benefits? Once you go down this path, don't look back. The sickly sweet enticement to re-join the organism must be ignored. You don't have to know all the answers. Just know what you know, and as Rummy said, what you don't know. If some portion of the MSM message is fake, is any of it real? Not likely. Certainly must be parsed with a strong filter. If they put up distractions for X, why not Y? In other words, of course it's all 100% manipulation. You just have to decide what to believe. To me news stories aren't about the truth or events. They are about what the people in charge want to say about them. Here's an exercise for you: watch the news and listen for the ads about products and entertainment that get woven in. As a result of my depravity, I crave "Real News". These events are the ones that are clearly not contrived or revealed as part of a careful plan to keep us buying, guessing, or worrying. Weather events top this list. Other events like ClimateGate get put on the scale somwhere inbetween Real and Fake and slide around based on my discernment. Real news is always manipulated and must be seen for what it is. ClimateGate, regardless of the origin or motivation behind it, is in fact, the largest scandal in Earth's history, made up or not. Sadly, "...it is also about the fact that thanks to some friends of ours, the world's most debilitated and corrupt country (Pakistan) has the bomb. I would think we are a little concerned about that--given that the Taliban seeks the quickest way for most people to see Allah!" --#1 anotherone
That, I agree, is THE critical, and perhaps, the only reason for having a presence in the area. No matter how well we train the Afghans, once we leave, they will bow to the brutality of the Taliban as the tribal system still reigns and the poppies bring in the cash. And the Taliban will not hesitate to use the mercenary Al-Qaeda, if that's what it takes, to regain power. And much of the Taliban leadership still has ties to -- in fact, many originated in -- the Pakistan military. Obama is a fool to think he can bring our soldiers home before his next election run. The faces of those West Point cadets said it all, but then again, they are being trained -- steeped -- in history and the art of warfare. They know what they DON'T know and what a slippery slope we face. Our President totally lacks education or experience in this area, nor do Emanuel and Axelrod have any idea of the complexity. All three are Chicago-style politicians used to practicing Chicago-style, strong-arm power politics. Unfortunately, such tactics don't work for long outside of Chicago, although Emanuel is trying them out again in his second tour of Washington. How well is it working? Hmmm...In our democracy, you have four years before you face the citizenry. Al-Qaeda can foment forever awaiting its bombs. jma,
Good on ya to stay on topic. This is a VERY concerning situation. BD - IMHO, no connection. Obama's been under pressure for 11 months to do something about Afghanistan, and a month ago announced that he'd be making a decision around the first of December. Rather than a concerted 'plot' to distract us from ObamaCare, it looks to me more like a case of "Well, I had to do something!"
