Happy St. Andrew's Day, plus excellent Climategate summary

Cheers on St. Andrew's Day to our Scots friends and readers!

Now we must move south of the border to take a good summary look at Climategate and its meaning, as far as we now know: Climate change: this is the worst scientific scandal of our generation: "Our hopelessly compromised scientific establishment cannot be allowed to get
away with the Climategate whitewash, says Christopher Booker."

Andrei, you've lost another submarine?....Most fascinating to me: they got rid of, or "lost," all of their raw data. That means the raw data from which the IPCC reports have been produced - after the data was played with. In science, "losing" data is a felony, and discredits everything you have ever done. Why?

Because it makes it impossible to either corroborate or refute the conclusions.

It sounds as if the only solution to this complicated and multi-layered pile of 'coprolites' is to discard all of the compromised information and start from Square One. This time we'll include the Medieval Warming Period, which after all is attested to by many historic documents. And these documents have not been conveniently destroyed by non-scientists claiming to be 'neutral.'

If Obama has a brain in his head, he will get a convenient diplomatic illness and not attend the Climate Conference in Copenhagen. I'm sure that more coprolites are just waiting to emerge in the next week or two.

And for gosh sakes, Barry, don't listen to Fat Albert. Ever again.

And data collected with public money is and should forever be, public property. If there were equal justice under the law in UK, then the climate research center would be closed all data and property seized, and the building and access to it and all the remaining data, computers, etc. should be guarded for scientific study and as evidence. The scientists should be fired and subject to severe civil and criminal charges.

How long in prison would make up for the billions or trillions of dollars these crooks have caused to be spent of the basis of lies and falsified data?

Finally, if you think the UK global warming alarmists are bad,the US NASA has Hanson and others. People in NASA should be stopped from destroying NASA data, if it is not already too late.

Perhaps as a matter of law it should be, but quite often it isn't. Instead, it may be the intellectual property of the researcher who either created it or gathered it, unless the grant or contract with the funding agency says otherwise. Some funding agencies have rules about archiving research results, including data, others don't. NASA does have such policies in place, which is why the observations from Hubble are publicly available for instance. I'm not sure, however, whether the rules apply agency wide, e.g., to the Hansen temperature datasets.

"How long in prison...billions of dollars..." How about loss of life among the world's poor, denied the use of cheap energy to increase their productivity and their standard of living? When an African child, infected with malaria because the greenies have blocked the careful use of DDT, lies on a mud floor of a hut, because the greenies have blocked economic development, rolling with a fever of 104F in a room that is 90+ temp and humidity because there's no cooling system -- how long should the greenies be in prison for that?
