Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Saturday, November 7. 2009Saturday morning linksThe Right Wing Prof offers thanks to all for prayers and support. This Is Not Your Grandma's Humane Society. Just one more non-profit co-opted by moonbats. Pelosi: Buy a $15,000 policy or go to jail. They had better begin building more jails - maybe with stimulus money. AARP's tacit endorsement of Medicare cuts line its pockets, but shortchanges seniors The O at MIT: “We’ll just have to deal with those people.” I guess he means me. Nice approach to a fellow citizen. Related: Frustrated in Copenhagen. Good. Those people are nuts. Al Gore Himself already said that CO2 isn't the main problem. This is crazy, isn't it?
Obama cedes the center. RCP The truth leaks out on health care. Powerline. Not only do the Dems want to cover abortions - a truly elective procedure - they want to cover sex change operations. On my nickel? Of course, boob jobs would be fine with me...
Problem is, the only way to make jobs would be to cut taxes and spending. Bad: Obama's Frightening Insensitivity Following Shooting. A bad week for Democrats compounded by an awful moment for Barack Obama. Via Viking: Yeah...we know - Real Clear Markets: "Why middle class tax hikes are coming" From the Krautman:
PTSD by Proxy? Plus the video of the Major in a minimart. Who wants the Gitmo terrorists and Jihadists in the USA? Besides the O? A short essay on ubermensch myth and politics. Flopping. Related and equally good: No-one saw Barack in the balloon? "In a fast-breaking development comes word that agents of the Attorney’s General office in Louisiana have raided ACORN’s offices in New Orleans. ACORN’s New Orleans was, for decades, the headquarters of the national community organizing association" Canadian students march for "good jobs for all." What's a "good job"?
Who would hire a new employee if you don't know how the Dems will screw you? How can you make a business plan?

"Obama's Frightening Insensitivity" simply reflects his attitude generally: it's them and us. He has mentioned publicly that our military are volunteers; they asked to be there, so whatever befalls them--so be it. Nice guy!
HSUS does not have a good record.
Vicki Hearne has a book on it, Bandit. Ignore the modern and completely off-the-wall cover blurb. Hearne takes no prisoners, but died in 2001 and so is not around to protect her book from ignorant promoters. http://tinyurl.com/yl8a8nd I have a question for The Barrister about the 2010 census, which already seems to be beginning, coming to a neighborhood near you. As has been pointed out numerous times, the U. S. Constitution mandates only that when the census-takers come to your house, you only have to tell them how many people live there. Over the years our government, in its overweening urge to get as much information about citizens as it can, as cheaply as it can, has included a lengthy questionnaire filled with impertinent questions which they claim must be answered, on pain of receiving a large fine and possible time in the slammer if the questioned person refuses to answer.
Is this legal, according to the laws of the land? Can we resist this demand, without having to pay the fine and/or go to the slammer? Surely we can? This conspicuously resembles laws in states ruled by dictatorships. Besides being a huge, unwarranted intrusion into citizens' private lives, it would seem to be extremely unwise for citizens to answer such extremely personal questions such as these, providing all sorts of organizations and persons, both legal and illegal, with private information which could severely damage "our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor..." to use a famous quote. I realize that this is like asking for free legal advice, and you may choose not to answer. But there are a lot of us out here who are going to be under the gun about this in 2010. And this question is bound to come up. I asked our own lawyer about this during this past summer, and he was somewhat evasive, but said I "could have a little fun with this" by pretending to be a crazy old lady. While you all know I am a crazy old lady, we also all know that The Government doesn't have much of a sense of humor about what it wants, and it certainly doesn't help Crazy Old Ladies across the street, like good Boy Scouts and kindly maggiesfamers used to do. I predict this is going to be an increasingly big issue, as more and more people, especially those whose identities have already been stolen, resist the threats and the invasive questions that the Census Takers are going to ask. What do you think? Marianne Body count would be 14 Non-Muslims. Can't forget the recruiter from Arkansas.
Re moving GITMO terrorists to the US: a recent blog posting said that they don't want to be moved. Plenty of time outdoors with a tropical sun and plenty of socializing beats the 22 hours per day in solitary they would get in the US.
Organizations belong to those who run them. The organizations are then run for their benefit at their whim. If you want the Humane Society to be a humane society and not a terrorist organization, then you and your friends and everyone you know must pay dues, show up, seize offices, and rule. That's it.
No policy statements, no mission objectives, no rules, no laws, no constitutions will prevent the 'takeover' of organizations by dedicated individuals who lead enough of a following to vote themselves into power. Would you want it any other way? The majority of people who act wish the humane society to be a quasi-terrorist animal rights organization. The long march of fascism, nazism, feminism, communism, socialism through society and its institutions is not over. It will not be over any time soon--because they are the majority. |
