Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"What? After three "Education Presidents?""

Big surprise:



...when you look at the high-school NAEP scores, you see virtually no improvement in reading or math performance since the early 1970s, despite massive increases in taxpayer funding and reform fads galore.



Everybody knows that education costs next to nothing. It's the education industry that is expensive. Most people also know that "increased funding" and "reforms" are little more than political payoffs.

Absolutely agree...both of my younguns were reading by kindergarten and are well ahead of grade level.

The Magnadoodle is the modern (chalkless) equivalent of the slate; it's relatively cheap, highly portable and with a little imagination; a very effective pedagogical tool. :)
