Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Thursday, June 25. 2009What She-Who-Must-Be-Obeyed says about politicsMrs. Barrister has given up her interest in politics. She says the Repubs blew their chance when they had Bush, the Senate and the House, and will get no more chances for the forseeable future. When the Repubs stand for freedom, it comes out sounding like a mean parent saying "No" - unless you have a talented communicator who believes in what he is saying. Here's a summary of her gloomy thoughts: - The Dems gave $4-8 billion of tax dollars to ACORN two months ago as part of the "stimulus." How can Repubs compete with that kind of money? - The Dems will make 6-10 million illegal immigrants citizens. How are you going to compete with those numbers? - Immigration at the turn of the century brought in millions lacking in the individualistic traditions and in the Protestant ethic that founded the country (including some of her relatives). They never really "got it." Since then, it's been about money and security - not freedom - and FDR made that idea permanent. - As Newt warned years ago, once you have government medicine it's all over. It will all be arguments about "gimme more," and your very life will be in the hands of the State. - The family was the foundational cultural institution of America and the foundational transmitter of culture. It's dying rapidly now, statistically. 70% of black kids born outside marriage, 23% of white kids. TV shows make jokes about how only gays and Republicans get married any more. This leaves women hoping that the State will be their reliable husband to protect them and to help raise their kids. Related at Time: Does The Ice Age Cometh for Repubs and Conservatives? From my perspective, the Dem national agenda is as follows: 1. Pay off supporters (done, in part, via the "Stimulus") And then what? It is what is called overreach, and it is nuts. Trackbacks

"Then what?"
Don't worry: they have a plan. By that time, we will all strictly be on a need-to-know basis . History is replete with the rise and fall of great nations, the U. S. reached its nadir in the late fifties and early sixties. Its been downhill ever since.
Sorry, wrong choice of word. Seems like ever since Kennedy was shot we've been on a downhill slide.
Zenith. I believe we purchased our first in the fifties.
Apex.

Barrister et ux sound awfully defeatist today. By the end of his post I was in the same funk! Stop it! Seriously, though, who is going to lead the Counter-Revolution so desperately needed? I cannot see the USA going the Socialist route without a major fight- civil war- at some flash point. The Obama Agenda is totally unacceptable to sane Americans but our visionary leaders have not yet made their appearance, our "Man On Horseback" ready to seize the opportunity.
Don't look to me for leadership!
I avoid it like the plague. I focus on trying to run my own life. B- as with most Maggie's Farmers, we are all too busy managing our own lives. Surely, though, there must be an aspiring leader reading Maggie's somewhere????
Anyone remember the show Max Headroom? . . . . . . .Well we've arrived. How do I become a blank? I want to fight this war underground.
7. National ID Cards. 8. Computer chips inserted in all newborns. Mr. B I'd vote for you , but you have to stop gargling with rust razor blades which accounts for your lousy teeth. Nice post!! The Mrs. is entirely correct. The game is over. Obama was game, set, match. Check. Double crown me. The Fat Lady is bellowing every song ever written.
The US is the last significant nation to head down the rabbit hole of totalitarianism (regardless of whether it wears velvet gloves or not). Nowhere to run to... nowhere to hide. Humans are headed for misery that will rival the middle ages. Fortunately for me I'll be dead, or nearly so, by the time the serious suffering starts. My children and, perhaps, grandchildren will not be. They will be serfs (unless, of course, they decide to join the elite - the serf owners). And nothing I can do. Convert one lefty. just one. Every righty convert one lefty.
Do you think Gary Gensler would listen?
Bernie Sanders America's last statesman. How low can the bar get. i guess we are doomed to find out how low it can get. i learned that you don't raise taxes in a recession when i was in kindergarten. but that was before the Stupid Flu epidemic.
Re convert one lefty. Tall order Buddy. I have been trying. Very hard to make the brain blind see.
This socialized medicine craparoo should run afoul of the Constitution if we had courts that were worth a shit.
There has, too, been found a right to privacy in the Constitution, concerning abortion. I'd think this right ought to be carried over into a person's daily medical life. If the state can't deny an abortion for the health of the mother, how can the state deny other medical care for the health of the patient? I'll, personally, be culled out before this is decided, however. I believe the nation hit its highest point in terms of freedom just prior to 1930. Freedom, since then, has been diminishing due to activist courts and government intervention.
In terms of economic power, we hit our peak only recently. This isn't to say that government intervention is good for the economy - it's saying that we'd have been EVEN STRONGER without government intervention, and as it increases, we will continue a long, slow slide down. HOWEVER, I am an optimist, and I believe our best years are ahead of us. Enough people like us exist to take the nation to the next level. And we will, in spite of Obama. McNamara is dead, but he is remembered as saying "We were wrong." There was not international communism afoot in Vietnam, but a country trying to find its own way. We were wrong in Iraq too. There was not international terrorism afoot in Iraq. Don't worry folks: there isn't socialism or totalitarianism at work at home - just greed and corruption.
