Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Monday, May 11. 2009Monday evening linksThe GOP's woman problem. A friend of mine says it's because women expect their husbands to dump them for younger gals, and hope the gummint will fill in. So sorry that I made a little joke. Sambo brand? Bigotry of the Left Father Cutie's story. What do you expect with a name like that? Bad depression. Give me ECT, anytime, if it will help with the Obama Blues. Semi-related: Politicians as shrinks. Gimme a break. Pope walks out. Good Pope. Kami is back. Woops. Ocean warming (?) doesn't fit the computer models. But does it fit "the narrative"? Carbon-free sugar? What's the point? All food is full of carbon, and so are we. We are what is termed a carbon-based life form. Carbon is a good foundation for tons of cool molecules, hence Organic Chemistry. It means carbon-based chemistry. Semi-related: A boycott of US Treasury vehicles. I would not drive one. A push-back at the O's college speeches Big-time debt. What for? Oh, I almost forgot. It's not their money. Comments

See her as she flies
Golden sails across the skies Close enough to touch But careful if you try Though she looks as warm as gold The moon's a harsh mistress The moon can be so cold Once the sun did shine And Lord it felt so fine The moon a phantom rose Through the mountains and the pine And then the darkness fell The moon's a harsh mistress It's hard to love her well I fell out of her eyes I fell out of her heart I fell down on my face, yes I did And I tripped and I missed my star And I fell and fell alone The moon's a harsh mistress The sky is made of stone The moon's a harsh mistress She's hard to call your own Look now
as she'll be gone tomorrow Our fantasy dead to the marrow Only a day out of twenty eight in which to seal our fate Harsh, the fullness of the one who leaves us to sail alone Her siren song ensnaring all who hear to take the fall while standing naked at the ball Uh, what library would that be and where would I be finding it?
That depends on what the meaning of 'it' is.
Jephnol, Do you think Pascal is in heaven or hell? "The Moon is a Harsh Mistress" is a book title of Robert Heinlein's. I wonder who penned the words first. ` first one is a judy collins song. don't know who wrote it, though.
Following the links we arrive at this very important insight:
http://www.conspiracyarchive.com/Blog/?p=565 Meta, Pascal is a Blaise. One, two, three, four...
In the afterlife You could be headed for the serious strife Now you make the scene all day But tomorrow there'll be Hell to pay People listen attentively I mean about future calamity I used to think the idea was obsolete Until I heard the old man stamping his feet. This is a place where eternally Fire is applied to the body Teeth are extruded and bones are ground Then baked into cakes which are passed around. Beauty, talent, fame, money, refinement Top skill and brain But all the things you try to hide Will be revealed on the other side. Now the D and the A and the M and the N and the A And the T and the I-O-N Lose your face, lose your name Then get fitted for a suit of flame Gee, I wish I could write poetry. I knew when I went to bed last nite that picture would not be there in the morning.
Good to see that the Lord of the manor is on longer digging holes in the desert. Quennie is back after a hiatus in a bong bong cell. Mr Belvedere, still drinks vodka. I am Spartacus!! there, I beat you to it I'm jealous ,you get to go to the library and chase hot chicks, and I get to watch sheep all day. Life on this farm ain't fair. I'm going to pout all day long. : ) I just wondered if God appreciated a bookie. First time I read Pascal's wager, the first thought that came into my mind was 'He should have kept his mouth shut.' Doubt is natural: Bookmaking on belief is not.
` Sorry about what? I am the "you" in your poem? It's not "you" understood? Dang. You wasted a good poem, Jephnol. Hell of a rude insult attempt, but it's wasted on me.
` Hahaha...you're mental! The "you" in your poem is the what? Stop personalizing crap it's annoying. The "poem" is a song by the Squirrel Nut Zippers; I was playing for God's sake. If I want to insult you I'll do a much better job than that...but I have no intention of insulting you. I like you you goob.
And how in God's name would I know if Blaise Pascal (the "you" in the song as I intended it) is burning in hell? That's between him and God, although I have no doubt there are bookies in heaven (given that heaven exists in the first place). Meta...you're funny. Hey Ron! STFU and mind your own business.
Hahaha... you'er mental !... Put a lid on it . A favorite of mine by the Squirrel Nut Zippers.
you might like it too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=na1yQ_fKUF0

Heh. Yeah I'm mental alright! My apologies. And do you know what's really stupid? I like that tune and I was thinking just the other day I wanted to put it up on my Facebook page.
Again, sorry. And thanks for the link. Very easy to misconstrue what you said, Jephnol. I did it. Were Meta not 'mental' this blog would be a lot less fun. Besides, we men should be so lucky to have a mate as 'mental' as Meta. Anything beats a dullard.
Respectfully, I ask you, were you confused that the Squirrel Nut Zippers song was directed at Meta? That I was "insulting" her?
Asked if Pascal is going to hell, I responded "Pascal is a Blaise" playing with his name, "a Blaise" and "ablaze". Hell. Get it? Then an apology for being silly brings an accusation of my throwing insults around. There are mighty tender feelings afoot. Luther, I like Meta a lot. too, but seriously she's a tough chick and she can throw elbows with the best I've seen so I pushed a little. Meta, if I offended you I apologize. It was not my intention. Thanks for politely putting me in my place Luther...your correction is always well received even if I cannot see the light. Respectfully in return. Yes, I was confused, it did seem that you were condemning Meta to hell, not personally, but through the poem. That's what I read from it. As I said... this medium is a tough one, very easy to misconstrue words when not accompanied by tone, body language, etc.
And yes, Meta can take care of herself. She needs no knight. No intention of being a corrector... not my place.

I suppose I thought the context was telling enough:
Pascal is "ablaze", followed by a song about hell...that coupled with the fact that IIRC I've never told anyone to go to hell on this blog. The fact is I really kind of have a hard time believing in a place called hell, never mind that it would just be rude. The song by the way doesn't condemn anyone to hell, rather it seems to me to be a tongue-in-cheek cautionary tale. It's whimsical, not damning. Stripped of music it may be without proper cues to its intent, but I cannot hear it without the sounds rattling around my head. I think Ron complemented your point I might add, as I mistook his song title as something completely different. You'll note above though, I've apologized because I was acting like Meta. "The "you" in your poem is the what?"
'you understood' is a grammar phrase that means the 'you' in a piece of writing extends to everyone, not just to one particular person. As for being 'annoying as crap', bite me. You want me to take things as BD or Barrister might take them? You'd never get any commentary out of me much less anything funny. I direct a question to you, I expect a personal response. Simple. Glad you like me. ` Oh boy. Hahahaha.
I know. hahahahahaha

Re GOP woman problem: Women are genetically programmed to trade freedom for security. That is why government safety nets appeal to them. Interesting how the beginning of Big Government meshes so closely with giving women the right to vote.
It just dawned on me --the contry is in the middle of a gigantic divorce proceeding. The Dems are the women, the Pubs are the men. It plays that way in every example you can think of --behavior, property, aggression, defensiveness, and it's a custody case, too --the nation is the only child --
Excellent analogy; a small detail not mentioned is..
the woman's got a razor in her back pocket and no one can find a tourniquet. Women are programmed to do anything to take care of their offspring. That force is perhaps stronger than the force it takes men to walk into battle: But it should not be diminished into political terms because freedom is a small thing when it comes to saving a child. That's where you guys come in - take care of that freedom so the 'living' child may grow in it. They are your offspring as well as your future.
` Aye, woman kind is a shrinkin' minority.
That be why the youngsters be wearin' Cougar bait T-shirts in the hood. I talked with a former state rep the o'day. He said his sons are both shacked up with cougars and for it he be concerned about their future. So, he's enrolled in community college to set the lads an example. But yall must remember, this is the Land of Enchantment. we was coon hunting one night and the dogs treed a cougar. But we thought it was a coon, so the other guy climgs up to shake him loose. Cougar lit int0 him and he starts screaming & hollering for me to "shoot shoot!"
i holler up that i can't tell 'em apart-- he hollers back "just shoot dammit one of us has GOT to get some relief!" Mr. Flaherty's joke is insulting and a bit coarse. I loved it. I see nothing for him to apologize for -- or, if he should, there's a looong line of Bush-bashers who should show him how.
