Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Tuesday, May 5. 2009A few afternoon linksNow that Homeland Security has decided to turn against fellow Americans as the dangerous enemies - patriotic dissenters - it's time to get rid of the darn thing. We already have the FBI, and Napolitano is no J. Edgar Hoover... or is she? Miss California is still targeted, despite the fact that her views on gay marriage were identical to Obama's stated position in the election. Palinization? That gal is cute as a button - but dangerous? And since when aren't Christians supposed to be sexy? Michael Savage is not the most refined voice on the radio (says whatever he thinks, and is #3), but I hope he sues over this. I am shocked. Shocked. The Taliban Lied. Who'd a thunk it? Nice folks certainly - just misunderstood. Call the social worker, Dear Officer Krupke. Also from the Gateman, I am shocked. Shocked. 19,000 phony voter registrations. How much money in the "stimulus" went to ACORN? Was it $4 billion? That is a generous reward to a "not-for profit," "non-partisan" org. The O is now at +1%. Heading downwards. Not everyone seems to be enchanted. My motto is "Don't follow leaders; watch yer parkin' meters." "This is America." A tough CT Yankee: I'm not afraid of Obama Good fun to go with your single malt, at Surber.

Savage is just fine. He's the only Independent host on the air. The others bore the hell out of me always going on about their buddies and who was on what show- inside baseball stuff. Yawn.
They're just mad because he keeps playing "There's no England Anymore" by the Kinks. The UK snobbery makes a great ad for Savage. He should be experiencing a nice spike in ratings starting today. He's been touting a British boxer lately, maybe this is just payback. That's a cool song. I didn't see Osama bin Laden's name on the list. I sure hope the people involved in the bus bomb attacks were included too, I can't remember their names.
I don't understand the desire to keep gay marriage illegal. It is really just contract law.
I understand the religious folk saying "not in my church." I just don't get the "not in my state" or "not in my nation." ...not saying this to be provocative... I just seriously don't understand it. I agree. Of course it does open the door for polygamy, but is it the government's job to protect you from your own stupidity?
The government depends on people's stupidity. If it didn't, I wouldn't be so washed-out by how stupid conservatives have been.... to say nothing of the current gangsters in office. I've always been traditional about social values and such - not really caring too much as long as people don't stick their stuff in my face, but lately I'm finding myself sick to death of hearing about gays and abortion and atheists and politically correct speech forcing people to lie or suffer the consequences. I don't know how to describe the feelings, but I think if another person starts pontificating about how we should live our lives, I might punch them. As if any of our leaders have that right.
People need to mind their own business. .. Like that faggot Perez Hilton decimating Carrie Prejean. My god. And I don't care about gays as long as they shut up. Hilton's a faggot, though. ` So much more eloquent than I. I mean, I would have said what you just did... but lack that 'touch'.
OK, show of hands...How many people were kept after Diversity class?

Close the post and open another one. Close it and go back to the post where you want to comment. You can't comment twice without closing the post and opening another. That works even if you haven't commented and just left the post open for a while. It makes for a lot of page views if the thread is moving.

I was kept after class. The instructor wanted to know what it was like being a WASP. I said, "It's okay. I own you, mofo, even if I am a minority."

Meta,
As someone that is an atheist, supports individual rights across the board (which includes allowing gay marriage and abortion)... I still can't say I disagree with you. I hate the PC crap more than anything. And I really don't care for folks pontificating about how to live my life. I do think it's funny that folks make a big deal about judging the chick on the content of her answer but are totally cool with judging how much jiggle is in her bikini. As for me: it's a damn beauty contest. It's about judgment. Big deal. The whole Perez rant online following the contest was uncalled for. I give you that. You wanna be judged as being a fair contest judge? Ad hominem probably isn't the way to go. I guess I am way to laissez faire here. I seriously couldn't care less if this opened the door to polygamy. Again, it's contract law.
...it ain't for me... but hell, if you want 5 wives (or 5 husbands!) I really really don't care. And the first big divorce would make a big pack of lawyers rich. RICH I SAY! Are gut reactions still honored? Just sticks in my craw, doesn't seem 'right', somehow.
Though good point about 'government's job'. All I can offer is that we're still learning. Luther, What sticks in your craw? As for still learning - what are we learning?
I'm retarded these days..... I need things explained in detail. I am suffering from enchantment overload. ` Man on man sticks in my craw. How 2 to 5 percent of the population drives the other 95%.
We're learning how to be a Democratic Republic. We ain't there yet. Understand, the Dem's, and the 'Pubs' do offer loads of enchantment nowadays. You and Meta better watch out, or you'll both get banned from England. : )

That's funny, Jappy. We're becoming as petty as the British as it is, only we haven't the sense of humor to live through this. The British have the greatest sense of humor. I just thought of something. Our campaign was like one of those chocolate Hostess cupcakes with the white creamy filling. There's a little white swirly bit of icing on the top of the hard chocolate crust. Our candidates in a cupcake.
I think I might need the blue balls back. They'll bounce nicely in my rubber room. boing boing... ` God, help me if I ever lose my sense of humor. It's my shield I use to protect my sanity, what little I have left of it.
No, I will not lend you my big blue ball. It's hard to play with a elephant in a rubber room. Luther makes a good point on how the 2 to 5% drives the other 95. Sadly I'm starting to think it's always been done this way. jappy and Meta ... About that 2 - 5%. That's a specialty of the Democrat thought. After all, objective statistics about "climate change" show that, at the most generous figuring of the stats, CO2 and man made pollutants have a percentage of causation not higher than 6 or 7%, and probably closer to 2 -5%. And yet they are all set to beggar our formerly vigorous economy with punitive tax rates and "cap and trade" to "save the earth" from warming. And the earth is already saving itself quite nicely, as it has always done. It's just another naked power grab, and they're doing it as fast as they can before the 'slumbering giant' of hardworking Americans in flyover country wakes up sufficiently to rebel.
If there is another rash 'tea parties' on July 4th, it ought to scare the crap out of them. We're not used to rebelling and demonstrating yet. We're used to working. But we'll catch on, you watch. Marianne |
