We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I am, perhaps, naive. My first thought was that if the first guy had been armed the situation would have been stopped before it got ugly.
If the thugs even thought he might be armed, it would not have happened at all.
Europeans disarmed their populace - they should not be surprised at the result.

Where did it say the attackers were immigrants? I couldn't find that. Also, the English language comments depicted the reactions of the French far differently from the actual reactions of the French commenters who were mostly outraged and disgusted by what they saw in the video.
I'll trust my eyes here... whether native born or immigrant, I might be able to discern other commonalities among those assholes. And no, their actions not at all distinct from other 'groups' at one time or another... but these particular groups at this particular time seem to be favored somehow. Their status more validated and righteous due to victim-hood, oppression and lack of 'opportunity'. I say arm the bus-driver and let him shoot the bastards. The world would then lack... what, exactly.
As for the French commenter's reactions... which is more indicative... blog commenter's or the actual riders on that bus?
It's awfully tough to be the first to stand up. I noticed in the film that the women were the ones doing so.
I"m just tired of it. Tired of us being cowed by cowards.
Luther: I noticed that too. The women at least seemed to approach the fight to see what they could do, even though they were too scared to actually intervene. The guys seemed to just walk away. Very curious.
If that had happened in 1909 as opposed to 2009 I think the outcome would have been rather different.
Woops wrong again. The reliable sources are saying all are immigrants. You can read more here:

An open comment to the people of France and all European nations:
For whatever reasons, you allowed these barbarians into your midst. You have allowed this social cancer to fester and grow, and this is the result. I am certain that this video is in no way unique; this scum looked too well practiced in their moves to cow and rob and intimidate all the passengers, whether they moved to intervene or just commented on what the scum were doing.
You have brought this upon yourselves and only you can bring about a change.
I think it might be wise for us to look at the power, and practices to keep that power, of both French, and the US unions. It seems to me that it is the unions that first take away individuality and a personal independence that was dismally absent on that bus.
Per the article, this occurred on the night bus service of Paris Transit that runs midnight to 6AM on a few main routes after the Metro has closed down for the night. If you're a tourist, you're better off taking a taxi that late, anyway. The Metro is still pretty safe, and really a heck of a lot safer that riding certain sections of the Chicago Red or Green lines of the MTA after hours, or most of the London Underground after dark. No way in hell would I take a bus in any of those towns.
