We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I post this clip to an 18-minute documentary from 2005 by Professor Richard Landes of Boston University. It highlights how the palestinians give new meaning to the term "theater" of war.
I apologize if you've seen this before, but it needs to be part of any discussion that involves media accounts of the war. Next time you see a youthful palestinian throwing a rock in a David & Goliath-style sling, remember that there are no people in danger of being hit by that rock, except perhaps a palestinian cameraman who might happen to get in the way. Behind that boy are adult hamas firing lethal rockets that they probably got from a complicit drunkard at the U.N.
I've seen that. I thought of it today when the news was declaring the Israelis had bombed a UN school and killed over twenty people. They implied by stressing 'school' that children were killed. It happened to be a weapons dump.
I remember watching the scenes of 9/11 playing over and over again - this was before I had to turn it off, and after a day or two, there was footage of Palestinians ululating in the streets, burning American flags, and dancing around. One particular woman was shown over and over close-up yelling joyously through four or five teeth. That's when I had to turn the TV off or die myself.
