We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Despite all the other headwinds he is fighting against (recession, the MSM, his age, his skin color), one major problem McCain faces is well-described in the Villainous piece we linked yesterday. McCain is not a visionary type, and he is not an ideologue. He is a solid, practical, trustworthy and remarkably strong fellow. He is running against a youthful (Socialist) visionary who promises to make your life easy and beautiful, but McCain is characterologically unable to present a competing vision. Like Bush 41, he probably thinks "the vision thing" is BS and unmanly, and cannot or will not fake it.
My problem with that is that McCain does have a vision, but he takes his vision of America so much for granted that he doesn't see it. It's the vision of freedom through strength, economic opportunity for all, holding the line with Federal power, and fiscal prudence. It's not Pie in the Sky, but it's an important and fundamentally American vision which deserved better "marketing" in this election, and people would rather vote for somebody than against somebody. My vote will be a bit of both.
Selling visions requires sales and marketing skills, just like selling cars: you have to make them feel that the new car will make them happier. Reagan knew how to sell freedom, and he knew what Obama knows: mass market politics is sales and marketing (including packaging). I think that notion is beneath a man like McCain's dignity. To his credit, he is not "a natural politician." (Sarah Palin is, which is why they want to destroy her.)
People and the liberal media in particular have short memories...the weathermen and their European equivalents were murderous psycopathic killers. The fact that they never succeded in their plans for mass murder makes them with the passing of time seem all hippy, warm and fuzzy.
Here's my vision. A Obama Presidency, will cement a deep depression, and alter the fabric of America FOREVER!!
Luther, I got tried of the Playboy Mansion. There's a guy there that stays in his pajamas, and bathrobe all day long. Whats up with that? I also found out that Meta vixen was no bunny! She lied to me again, always playing Lucy, and pulling the football away before I kick it. Back to my sheep I go . Hope you are well, your friend, Knight of The Crossed Ewes.
Press on to the finish line, ever resolute! Do not waver as the Silent Majority pushes McCain-Palin over the finish line to victory on November 4. I echo the observation already made here, I believe, that the absence of signs, bumper stickers, buttons, and other overt signs of support for either candidate in this election is like no other in my memory. So that makes the polls all the more suspect as well. Now is the time to stay focused, concede nothing, and battle tirelessly right down to the finish line. And beyond if Democrat vote fraud is evident.
Nooses are only racist if they are planted by a minority at a college or public office such as a fire station.
Even if the "noose" is a bit of fishing wire tied in a square knot, and the effigy is a commercially available cutout of the 1, and it turns out minority students planted it, the news will chatter on about "racist cutouts" and "it doesn't matter what the motivation was- it's still a symbol of racism".
GMPunter ... great comment and I agree. We may not put out signs, because there are so many thugs waiting to pull them down and perhaps punch us up if we protest. When you're 80, that could kill you. But we're here and we are determined and we'll be there on election day to vote. Wish we had paper ballots. We've got those dumb touch-screen voting machines that I basically mistrust. But we will persevere. And I pray we will win.
I forgot to mention: the Palin effigy was hung in a gay neighborhood by gays. Gay people, by definition, cannot be racist, or have any thing they do held against them on grounds of impropriety. Every thing they do is simply "fabulous", even hatred.
This from the local commie rag the Oregonian, soon to be the Obamagonian, regarding the George Fox fishing wire "noose" and "racist cutout" and the spate of recent "hate" attacks that weren't "hate" until the perps could be determined to be white, and male.
"The Obama image at George Fox is the third publicized incident on Oregon college campuses in the past year involving racist images hanging from trees.
At Oregon State University in Corvallis last fall, a noose was left hanging from a tree after a fraternity Halloween party. And at Reed College in Portland, a Halloween display last year included dummies, supposed to represent ghosts, hanging by nooses from trees on campus. In both incidents, students said they didn't intend the images to be racist. "
See, you don't have to be a racist to be a racist. All that matters to these loons is that they don't like you, therefore you are a racist. Your very existance is "racist" by this definition. Have you fitted your gasoline filled tires for your new necklaces yet?
I'm doing fine Jappy. Hope you and your family are as well.
Too bad you didn't care for the Playboy mansion... we thought it would be an improvement over the nunnery... guess not. But you seem upset with Meta... why is that? She has only your best interests in mind as a Knight of the Crossed Ewes. Careful with those sheep my friend.
I've noticed over the past few weeks that McCain/Palin lawn signs are popping up at a good clip here in the mid-Willamette Valley. They have overtaken the number of Obama lawn signs in the yards of the SEIU state workers homes.
