We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I just don't get McCain's justification for the mortgage bailout. If someone has an appropriate mortage, then they should have a fixed rate mortgage at an amount that fits into their normal income budget. If they have that type of mortgage, then they shouldn't 'all of a sudden' be unable to make payments. It smells of bailing out people who made bad financial decisions...that's a tough learning lesson, but no lesson is learned if they're bailed out except that they'll always expect to get bailed out in the future.
Real estate investors/speculators should be out of this, those with rediculous lone payment to income should be out and those who used an exotic loan to finance a house that based on their earning expectation had no business being in should be out as well.
I wonder how many that would leave to be bailed out? 40,000, 4,000, 400?
