We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

I doubt that the present trans-mania will ever become the mega industry that article would like us to believe.
Is it too soon to assert that parents and medical professionals that undertake gender re-assignment with passionate interest are indulging in a form of Munchausen-by-Proxy Pedophelia? The sooner the behavior has a name, the sooner it can be brought out into the sunlight and addressed.
But I don't think it can last. Fads have a trajectory, and this one has every appearance of being on one. No adult with reasonably sound mental health is going to trot out their kid for sacrifice with the foreknowledge that they'll never be seeing any grandkids as a result. People are stupid, but not enough of them are that stupid.
There is a Jordan Peterson interview in the last few years, when asked about trans, he said the lawsuits would solve that. Makes sense, just wait for the attorney TV ads looking for clients from wrongful surgery.
My thought as well. Let victims - especially if minors - of the transgender industry sue hospitals, doctors and insurers sue for malpractise and it will be a multi-billion industry.
It is just wrong to do surgery or give gender changing medication to anyone under the age of 18. It is doubly wrong to do this while keeping it secret from the parents. There should be jail time for doing this. Another issue that isn't quite as clear cut but I still feel strongly about it is when the parents groom the child to believe they are not the gender that they were born into. In my opinion that would be reason enough to take the children from their parents.
The UN not only buys the science but it also buys the silencing of the skeptics. Small wonder that the neo-Malthusians have some luck at propagandizing the Earth Day student to panic over the weather.
re Guardian: How whiteness poses the greatest threat to US democracy
The author is clearly delusional, but it does off an insight to the Left's thinking on the topic.
I agree it offers a good insight into the Delusional Left.
It is good to know what your enemy is thinking.
It is also good to know that your enemy is not thinking at all.
Nordstream II sabatoge theory update.
Assuming that the map accurately represents the course of the pipelines; and assuming that the map accurately represents the location of the ruptures … wah-ho, isn’t that interesting, as Dear Old Dad would say?
Even more interesting is this little tidbit, also via email. Russia was having compressor “issues” on Nord 1, enough that the whole sodding compressor station was “shut down” and a “hazardous production facility”.
Is anyone else getting the twitchies regarding the fact that at least some of the equipment that keeps the pipeline pressurised was off-line? Just me? Oh, well then. Carry on.
Moving on — multiple sources have confirmed that Nord 2 was full of natural gas; that it was full for at least months; and that said natural gas had never moved.
. . . As I said in the previous post — and I will continue to say — none of this rules out intentional Acts of War. There are idiots enough in that region that sabotage can’t be discounted.
I'm with Lawdog. There are enough idiots running things to discount the likelihood that one of them thought it was a good idea to blow up a Russian pipeline and blame it on Russia! Hell, the media and apparently most (all?) of the talking heads on the witless lefty cable news shows have no problem saying it out loud. For the record, I do think that there is a slim possibility that it could be a false flag operation so Russia could blame us.
But from the little I know (thankfully, I don't get all my information on cable news or I'd know even less), and almost everybody knows very little about this, it seems more likely that this was caused by poor maintenance.
In the end, it almost doesn't matter (see Churchill's thoughts about lies, truth, and pants:https://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/winston_churchill_103564) and the important thing is what the story will be used for.
I'll try to provide some constructive counterpoint to this, hopefully a little useful insight:
A compressor station, by definition, is a Hazardous Production Facility. It's a classification. That's why there are signs on the gates. There are hazards inside and access is controlled, limited to people familiar with them.
As far as I know, both of the pipelines were shut in at the time of the ruptures, i.e. not moving any gas, because of the sanctions. Why would the consortium be running their compressors if the pipelines were shut in? For what purpose? It's shut in. It's normal to keep the pipelines fully packed at operating pressure when they are shut in. And by the way, compressors are high-maintenance items, which is why there are usually double or triple redundancies at the plant.
Why would the consortium be running poisonous, corrosive gases through the pipeline in the first place, when H2S is the first thing that is scrubbed from a gas supply, for exactly those reasons? They would be scrubbing H2O, H2S, CO2, ethanes, propanes, butanes and every other gas fraction, as an impurity - because they don't want a liquid fraction in their Natural Gas (methane) gas stream. Because that would cause a problem. It would require more frequent pigging, for example. Many of these impurities are mostly stripped out at the wellhead / site production facility, and there would be a final treater at the compressor site to get the supply into the required composition / specification, before compression.
(Sorry, wouldn't take the whole thing)
As for the gas 'sitting there for months', that's a 'so-what?' question. It is routine, and one of the reasons that pipeline companies take such pains to purify their gas streams in the first place. The LawDog's unfamiliarity with basic pipeline operational engineering is leading him to believe that everything is an alarming crisis, because he's ignorant of what is normal. And he, for some reason, appears to believe that incompetent, under-funded, vodka-soaked Russians are in charge of operations. Has he provided any evidence of anything yet?
The pipelines are owned and managed by a Swiss consortium. They cost a fortune. The Swiss are not renowned for cutting corners. The lines are managed under ISO (European) and DNV (Norwegian) certifications, and those are not casual standards, I can tell you from direct, extensive personal experience in the drilling world. They are a major P.I.T.A. for systematic compliance-checking. It is a system of tight controls with third-party verification, and the third parties are accredited and certified, and audited.
The notion that a pipeline has corroded itself into junk 3 years after being commissioned is ludicrous, under the circumstances.
I've been involved with quite a few pipeline projects as the drilling function, I've had to move my anchored drilling rig out of the way for pipelay vessels to come through, dropping a finished pipeline end that our well-in-progress would ultimately connect to - in fact one of those occasions was with the Solitaire, which worked on the Nordstream2 project:
..and as a driller, it's normal for me to be closely working with production people and their facilities. What we do is very highly specialized, some of it jaw-dropping to people when they see it and start to get into the details for the first time. Billion-dollar projects with life cycles into the decades have a way of demanding rigorous attention to detail, demands for proof and people who actually check your work before proceeding. It's not optional.
Just my own uninformed two cents of course. Right now the Swiss consortium cannot get access because the Swedish and Danish navies are in control of the locations and won't issue a permit until they're done with their own investigation. It will be very interesting to see how this incident transpired.
If we don't have photos soon I'm thinking I'll continue to harbor doubts about any announced cause, official or otherwise.
The Swedes have announced evidence of explosions and therefore, gross sabotage.
In the last four days Russia has significantly elevated the nuclear threat. Is it a bluff? In the last 20 years Russia has significantly improved and expanded it's weapons delivery system while the U.S. spent it's efforts fighting global warming. Was that the intent of the cabal that pushes the global warming agenda? Whether it was or was not the result of our focus on global warming has detracted from our ability to defend ourselves. Meanwhile Biden is doing everything possible to weaken us even further. Is this simply Biden being stupid or is it intentional? Is Biden a "president" or a "Manchurian candidate"? I'm sure it's nothing...
The idea that gay marriage will lead to polygamy is just a slippery slope argument.
Agreed, and the notion that polygamy will eventually be extended to include farm animals is equally far-fetched. /sarc_off
