We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
In the 70's Alaskan voters voted to expand/build the railroad to connect with Canada and the lower 48 rail system. It never happened. Their legislature simple disregarded the vote of the people. At the same time the Alaskan voters voted to move the capitol and the legislature closer to the two large population centers of Alaska because they were so remote the voters couldn't get there easily and this contributed to the legislature ignoring the will of the voters. Strangely this never happened either.
I've ridden on the Skagway - White Horse line, from Skagway up to the Canadian Border anyhow. Then we hopped onto bicycles and rode down the mountain back to Skagway. That was a ball! Pretty country, and Skagway itself is quite reminiscent of the fjords, touristy-stuff aside.
