We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Happens to be a NYC weekend for us. Yesterday a little urban hiking and brunch with the kids at supposedly the best seafood restaurant in the world (!?) - Milos. They give you a tour of the fish they have on ice before you order.
Tourists, visitors, and locals everywhere - just wonderful. Theater later today Sunday.
Most of the terrorists who committed the terrorism on 9/11 entered this country illegally. In this fiscal year alone over 1 million "got aways" entered this country illegally. Most of the illegals enter, look for the authorities to give themselves up and get a free cell phone and a ride. So why would anyone enter and be a "got away". Because if they were caught they would either be sent back or put in jail. That is 1 million people who are criminals or terrorists and possibly Chinese spies who came across our border while the vegetable in the WH went on vacation. So we learned nothing from 9/11 and are doomed to repeat it. Our government is not protecting us and they are doing that on purpose. Why?
I had to turn of the TV this morning because I can't watch the replays of events on 9/11. You look into the eyes of the firemen as they prepare to walk up the stairs of the WTC and you can see it in their eyes that they know they are going to their death. This was a failure in leadership. Someone could have saved a lot of lives by having all the first responders back away. Everyone that could should have abandoned the WTC buildings. What a shame.
Every anniversary I read James Stewart's piece in the New Yorker, https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2002/02/11/september-11th-attacks-world-trade-center-rick-rescorla-the-real-heroes-are-dead .
The subtitle of Stewart's book is “A Story of Love, Heroism, and September 11th” which pretty much nails it. It is a magnificent narration of a story that goes back decades and demonstrates love in many of its dimensions
When people ask me what a man should be, I tell them to read about Rick Rescorla. One could do worse, but rarely better
