We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Hope our readers - Americans, would-be Americans, and those in other lands who find America interesting - will take a few minutes to peruse the US Constitution. Certainly declaring independence was a courageous if not reckless move, but our foundational document is the Constitution.
Other than a moment of gratitude for that, today is a beach day or hike day or a boat day or a day to crank up the barbie and have a few beers.
"BREAKING: Internal email reveals day before Jan 6 riot, US Capitol Police intel unit warned "BLM from Baltimore" was bussing in rioters: "BLM/Antif will wear MAGA hats, wear camo, and attempt to blend in with MAGA crowd" so violence blamed on Trump supporters attending Trump rally"
The J6th committee has known this all along and has hidden these emails. The capitol police knew this and intentionally had only half a shift of capitol police on duty for the rally. Nancy Pelosi knew this and ordered the capitol police to man half a shift.
Are you getting this? This was a setup, just like all the BLM and ANTIFA riots the left allowed they allowed this one too. The BLM and Antifa are the black shirts of the Democrat party and do their bidding. This is 1933 Germany politics and the J6 "riot" false flag was our Reichstag. I have to admit Hitler did it better than Pelosi did! And the J6 protestors in jail are Pelosi's Gulag. Funny how history rhymes!
I see the Declaration as mostly a vision statement of what the American Experiment hopes to create:
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, and are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, that to preserve these rights governments are instituted among men, deriving their just power from the consent of the governed.
The Constitution, especially the Preamble, is more an action statement of how we are going to go about achieving the vision:
We the People of the united States, in order to form a more perfect union, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Another guy named Dan
I think Randy Barnett says it best:
What the Declaration of Independence Said and Meant
It officially adopted the American Theory of Government: First Come Rights; Then Comes Government to Secure These Rights
Without the bold declarations in the Declaration, there IS NO Constitution.
Happy Independence Day!
We don't have Narragansett here in South Jersey, but my neighbors put on the best illegal fireworks display I've ever seen on the dam across our lake. It was better than some municipal displays I've seen. No Independence Day blues in this neighborhood, just happy Americans celebrating their Nation's birthday.
