Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Codevilla's piece is long, but epic.
QUOTE: Panicked by fears manufactured by the ruling class, the American people assented to being put essentially under house arrest until further notice, effectively suspending the habits, preferences, and liberties that had defined our way of life. Most Americans have suffered economic damage. Many who do not enjoy protected status have had careers ended and been reduced to penury. Social strains and suicides multiplied. Forcibly deferring all manner of medical care is sure to impose needless suffering and death. In sum, the lockdowns’ medical and economic dysfunctions make for multiples of the deaths and miseries of the COVID-19 virus itself. It's interesting how each of the "anti-racists" actions taken seem to treat blacks as small, stupid children who can't function in that nasty real world.
Unless of course it's just another attempt to destroy civil society and replace it with something else...nah...couldn't be. Nice move, Rutgers.
Another reason for companies to avoid hiring blacks for jobs requiring communication skills. If Portland's "not out of control", then who is in control there?
It seems like having whoever that is answer some questions about what they allow to happen on their watch would be newsworthy. Here in Deep Blueland, we have two teachers in the family and they tell the same story: Teachers will die if schools re-open.
They accept the fact that children are at minimal risk, but believe that kids will spread the blasted thing across the faculty. The fear runs pretty deep and no amount of argument moves them. If your two teachers do not want to work, fine. They don't get paid and we will find two teachers that do want to perform their job. They education system will be better off.
Sorry to be off topic, but I just wanted to point out that I have not seen very many national election signs this election year and no Biden 2020 signs. Anecdotal, I know.
This so-called "corvid-19" is a disease of birds. This so-called "pandemic" is just the flu.
No Masks No Social Distancing No Vaccine. Mostly local election signs where I am. I've seen a few Trump signs, no Biden.
The madness is showing no signs of slowing down.
If I am reading the piece correctly, this will affect white kids as well. However, there is so much nonsensical babble there it is hard to tell. The silence on HCQ is deafening. Especially among all the talk about re-opening the schools. No one mentions this as part of the approach to open them "safely".
I was too young to pay attention but old enough to understand it, and I don't remember anything about a flu pandemic in 1968. I read an article yesterday about face masks being used in the US in the severe 2009 flu season, and I don't remember that, either.
My memory is in good enough shape for both. I can remember a few years back (2015?) being required to wear a mask to visit my mother in the hospital during a flu outbreak, and that measures were put into place to mandate that people wearing masks be allowed into public buildings, but never a mandate for general usage.
[Dem Rep. Blumenauer: ‘Portland, Oregon Is Not Out of Control’
Somebody should offer to do a photo op with him in front of the Federal courthouse in Portland. Do any of you remember Steve Stockman?
Steve is a former conservative congressman and an at-risk person for the Covid virus due to poor health. He is rotting in prison and is qualified under the rules for release to house arrest because of the pandemic. He's not going anywhere because of orders "from the top" in Washington. Someone in the Deep State wants him dead. http://www.conservativehq.com/article/32924-who-washington-wants-steve-stockman-dead-someone-top Why is he in jail? He fought the Deep State and 0bama administration: QUOTE: Stockman is being punished for his zealous pursuit of Obama-era wrongdoings, and in particular, for going after former Internal Revenue Service nonprofit division official Lois Lerner for targeting conservative nonprofits. “It was a totally political attack,” said Art Harman, who was Stockman’s legislative director during his recent term in Congress. “The prosecution was initiated two weeks after he introduced a resolution calling for the arrest of Lois Lerner,” Harman told The Epoch Times in an interview. “Unfortunately, [former Attorney General Jeff] Sessions did not review and dismiss politically motivated prosecutions after President Trump was inaugurated,” he said. https://tinyurl.com/y3om8f35 QUOTE: He was ordered to serve 10 years in prison for the vague charges of mail fraud, wire fraud and money laundering. Whenever prosecutors want to get someone who hasn’t actually committed a crime, they use those vague but scary sounding charges. He was also ordered to pay $1,014,718.51 in restitution, to be divided between him and two other co-defendants. What did Stockman actually do to warrant this? He facilitated four donations from two donors totaling $915,000 to two nonprofits he was associated with. One of the nonprofits spent some of the money on a campaign mailer showing the differences between Stockman and the senator he was running against. It is a (c)4 and its purpose was to educate voters. The mailer did not endorse Stockman or tell people how to vote, so it did not run afoul of campaign laws. The donors were fine with how their money was used, which was mostly for youth education. . . . Stockman was charged with money laundering and wire fraud in part because Wells Fargo opened a new savings account for him. But this was a well-known scandal that was the fault of Wells Fargo. Wells Fargo opened up millions of fraudulent savings and checking accounts on behalf of Wells Fargo clients without their permission. They ended up paying a fine of $185 million. The case against Stockman was so weak it took prosecutors four grand juries to finally get an indictment. It took four years to investigate what should have been a six month investigation. It cost $15-20 million to go on a fishing expedition, which included intimidating witnesses. https://tinyurl.com/yya9wvvu We grouse about the GOP Congress being spineless. Perhaps the ordeal that has befallen Stockman is run of the reasons why they are so timid? The moral of the story here is that if you fight the Deep State they, will come after you and in this case a man's life was ruined. I can see why other GOP Congressmen don't want to rock the boat and meet a similar fate. "Teachers Unions Will Sacrifice Their Students For Their Politics"
Depersonalizing the problem isn't helpful - these are simply people, and whether they are part of the Teachers Union or not they are willing to sacrifice the needs of children to satisfy their political urges. Masks with messages.
These are pretty doggone good. https://tinyurl.com/yxporqnj The link takes you to etsy. I guess so.
Proper English is now 'racist". I don't think it will be long before they declare Vanilla Ice Cream as racist. "On August 5, 1981 following the PATCO workers' refusal to return to work, Reagan fired the 11,345 striking air traffic controllers who had ignored the order, and banned them from federal service for life.
In the wake of the strike and mass firings, the FAA was faced with the task of hiring and training enough controllers to replace those that had been fired, a hard problem to fix as, at the time, it took three years in normal conditions to train a new controller. They were replaced initially with non-participating controllers, supervisors, staff personnel, some non-rated personnel, and in some cases by controllers transferred temporarily from other facilities. Some military controllers were also used until replacements could be trained. PATCO was decertified by the Federal Labor Relations Authority on October 22, 1981. The decision was appealed but to no avail, and attempts to use the courts to reverse the firings proved fruitless." This is the charter school's chance to shine. It might be that not all children can be accommodated initially, because of the sheer numbers. But they would be sitting at home anyway - wouldn't they>? Of course, teachers are certified by the states, so this would be a little more complicated. Still.....it would be good to see some reporting to outline how this might be managed. Just to illustrate certain...vulnerabilities...within a population who think they're professionally bulletproof. By the way, PATCO strongly supported Reagan's candidacy. re Codevilla: The COVID Coup
A stellar piece on the history, hows and whys of the pandemic. It is a long read but well worth it. There is a Biden sign in my neighborhood. It sits in front of their Bernie sign after he lost. In 2016 they had a Hillary sigh in front of their Bernie sign.
Where is Rutgers going to find a certificated Ebonics instructor?
Climate Change!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hmph! Been doing that since our planet has had an atmosphere. Teachers Unions Will Sacrifice Their Students For Their Politics: Don't hire any unionized teachers. Fire the unions. Dem Rep. Blumenauer: ‘Portland, Oregon Is Not Out of Control’: That boy's NUTS. So is the mayor, and the Governer. High School Teacher in Michigan Fired for Saying 'Trump Is Our President' on Social Media: The TRUTH will get you fired. #7, Edith: I have seen some Trump posters, and local posters, but NO Biden posters in my rural area. That link about the limits of expertise was top notch. Written by a professor, no less!
Among the many takeaways from 2020 that is at the top for me, along with the craven mayors who will let rioters turn their cities into burning piles of trash, let businesses and lives be destroyed, and let their police forces be attacked with impunity, for politics. I was literally shocked by how passive these fools were. Rule of law now flipped on it's head, we are ruled by men, not laws. Even if not charter schools, the economy of scale of on line classes could really make a challenge to having so many schools. And thus so many teachers and administrators.
I admit taking some delight if we watch teachers protest their way out of jobs. You don't have to limit it to a state either. Suddenly Mississippi kids can tap into Massachusetts K-12 education. "Portland is not out of control! Who are you going to believe? Me or your own, lying eyes?!" - Earl Blumenaur
Excellent video of Dr. Sowell on Charter Schools. Even at 90, he is hot.
https://youtu.be/9boQrCPwMws One thing missing from discussions on Race is that blacks commit violent crimes at 10-20 times the rates of other races and they commit non-violent crimes at even greater rates. You would have to be stupid to trust a black person. Black people don't even trust other black people. The point is that their reputation and discrimination is well earned/deserved.
The irony is that the blacks who would choose to not follow the criminal path so common to others of their race, often blame other races for the discrimination that they encounter. |
