We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I do not believe that most doctors intentionally commit medical fraud or malpractice. The problem lies in the scientific and medical school communities. Some of it is old beliefs and biases that will not die. I read a few years back that some chiropractors were claiming they could prevent diseases like Measles with "adjustments". There are serious health/diet books written by authors we would all recognize their names which are pure BS and myth. There are doctors on TV who have made claims that should cause them to lose their license to practice. And there are lawyers who chase ambulances, fraudulent doctors and stupid court decisions all of which harm our health care system. Anti-Vax is a popular belief. It should make you ineligible to make any health decisions for yourself and others but instead it is celebrated. People are easily led and scams abound.
“Lies, damned lies and statistics”
Many can understand that the medical profession is really about getting a decision right most of the time instead of every time until it matters most to them.
Then they become the mark.
Sometimes a doctor will offer up a solution to that person for the best of reasons, sometimes as a means to provide any hope whatsoever and often because it’s a standard practice be it questionable or otherwise.
Seldom are solutions a perfect fit so out come the “Lies, damned lies and statistics”.
Always look at how the “Standard Practice” has been established to determine how the indefensible is defended.
