We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Re" The disgusting professor'
The line "suggesting that students could police themselves and should have both the freedom to err and the strength to cope with offense. " Seems to me to be the perfect argument for freedom of speech and action. It is what child rearing is all about. Trying new things and learning from your mistakes. It was an eloquent statement about what life is. No wonder the left hates them.
In 1912, Petaluma’s Carlson-Currier Silk Mill ordered three tons of soap, to wash the silk, from a Philadelphia company. How it was to be delivered is quite a story.
It was the first transcontinental load delivered by truck.
What an adventure!!
I find the arguments about the Nile ship weird and typical. He gave an accurate description but, simply because they didn't have one, they decided his account must be wrong? There's always this underlying malaise when looking at historical accounts that they must be false and corrupted over time and we don't have to take them seriously. I'm glad I live in the Kon Tiki era of history and so much hisotry is being recognized for the truth is contains.
It's a reminder of Eisenhower's trek across the US with a military detachment when he was a young lieutenant...and why he started the interstate highway system as a defense project.
Dying polar bears = global warming!!!
Polar bears thriving = global warming!!!

lots of snow = global warming!!!!!

Surprise: Solving ‘Climate Change’ Requires Ending Capitalism
In fact, solving the problem of anthropogenic global warming will require harnessing robust markets to furnish the economic growth necessary to develop new technologies and continued prosperity, while providing access to the fruits of industrialization to the developing world.

I have a cousin who is a scum sucking lawyer. He's looking for plaintiffs to sue "big alcohol" because it causes throat cancer.
He's also salivating over the marijuana companies because it can cause the same problems as tobacco.
He's a big Global Warming believer. Is building a 8k square foot house out of concrete.
> are part of an incremental movement to ban all semi-automatic guns
**ALL** guns. They might let us keep single shot .22s and some single shot shot guns.
Do you remember the book that discusses this trek by Ike? Google is not being helpful (certainly it cannot be my fault!)
Thanks in advance.
Another thing that fascinates me about this story is the truck model. It was built by Alco, the American Locomotive Company.
Alco was a major builder of steam locomotives at the time.
Alco showed vision by venturing into truck manufacturing, and was getting in on the ground floor, but by 1913 they had left the market.
There is a lot of detail on the ALCO truck here:
In any case repeated platitudes will resolve our nonexistent problems.
Again you're welcome.
Wow, Zachriel and Chairman Mao are truly birds of a feather!
"The contradiction between society and nature is resolved by the method of developing the productive forces."
- Mao Tse-Tung
Comrades, let us struggle to harness the productive forces of progress to grow industry so that we can control nature and bring prosperity to all! Yes, probably 70 million of you will die in the process, but trust me - it will be glorious! You see, I have this 5 year plan.....
I think it was at least partially covered in his book, At Ease : Stories I Tell to Friends. I've also read articles about it in various places.
"Donald Trump has shattered presidential standards. In response, The New York Times and other elite news organizations have scrapped their rigorous, long-held standards of objectivity. But will the Times’s changes have unintended consequences? And what does Trump himself think of all this? "
Those would be "so-called" standards. They're lefties; their only standard is hate for the non-left.
Hey Dad, that sounds philosophical. Are you branching out? Cool! Answer my questions next, okay? Dad? And hi again, Mr. Rusty, you're welcome, sure, in any case!
And who is Karl Marx? Because he said something similar. Was he a goddamn leftist philosopher stooge as some say? Gee whiz!
"The directing motive, the end and aim of capitalist production, is to extract the greatest possible amount of surplus value, and consequently to exploit labor-power to the greatest possible extent."
-Karl Marx, goddamn leftist philosopher stooge and apparently also Climate Change Global Warmening Expert and Person, right Dad?
"solving the problem of anthropogenic global warming"
There is no such problem. What's it like to be wrong?
With regard to the legalization of marijuana. It is a tool--just another tool that keeps masses of people weak. Most importantly it makes even more millions of people vulnerable to abuse, as the parents try desperately to keep their children out of harm's way the bad guys have leverage over the parents. Who are the bad guys you may ask? Those who have worked so hard to create a Socialist America
DrTorch: There is no such problem.
The vast majority of scientists how have studied the problem disagree.
What's the problem again? I've had snow on the ground since January, that hasn't happened in a few years. I know, I know, causation doesn't equal and all that happy talk, but you global warming...oops, forgot you now call it anthropogenic, have told me at least three times that we should all be burnt up into cinders by now. Near or record snow falls in California, Arizona, Colorado. You are wrong. Why can't you admit that? Ge Whiz. Go read The Hockey Stick Illusion, for a start. Also the polar bears were supposed to be dead by now. The oceans were supposed to have covered up huge swathes of land. No more ice caps. All wrong. You're welcome!
Are you going to tell me how wrong I am, and link to a graph? Let us talk about CO2 absorption rates, and how man is a disaster to the planet? Especially those evil non mother earth worshipers. Climate change deniers! They should all be jailed!
Exactly right "...scholars have argued over his account because there was no archaeological evidence that such ships ever existed...". A highly respected Greek historian EYE witness and these kettle heads have to tell us what they think !
It is. They control the raw data. Adjust it up or down to support the narrative.
The game's completely rigged, to keep that sweet research money coming in. After all, you think they'd get a lot of it for "You know, we're really not seeing any evidence of catastrophic warming"?
Oh, you can't use that site. It's not a denier site. They actually support their claims through DATA and not rhetoric. They SHOW their work, instead of making claims and saying "It's Twue, it's twue! We're CLIMATE SCIENTISTS and you're not and it's too complex for you to understand and we can't explain it so everyone can understand so you just have to take our word for it that WE'RE SOOO DOOOMED!"
...”we should all be burnt up into cinders by now.”
What? Sir, being wrong has never ever stopped the Zachriel before. Why start now?
B. Hammer: Disagree.
Most of the people in the survey are admittedly not experts in climate science. Most are not even scientists.
B. Hammer: forgot you now call it anthropogenic, have told me at least three times that we should all be burnt up into cinders by now.
We have never made that claim. Indeed, humans will adapt regardless of the degree of warming, though they may be poorer for it. More important, they can avoid the worst of the problem by updating their energy infrastructure.
Another great link! Thank you.
I didn't notice that the locomobile, had final drive using chains. What a mess in the mud. I'm curious about the economics of that cross country trek. That must have cost a fortune. Three tons of soap was worth more than six times its weight in gold (just guessing). Who could afford that?
Doesn't matter. Your claim was wrong. As usual. Yet you keep repeating it.
Don't you feel special? We seem to be the only two in the group that Zachriel will answer. The others are Trolls!
Legalization = long-overdue admission that the gubmint is neither entitled nor able to save people from themselves or police all behaviors. And a long-overdue step back in the direction of adulthood and personal responsibility - which will ultimately benefit "the children".
Legalization = long-overdue realization that the "war on drugs" has fundamentally transformed policing and the relationship between the citizen and the gubmint - not for the better, and in dangerous ways (look at "standard" police equipment: it's paramilitary).
I am not a troll!
I'm a computer-assisted literary device!
Dad refuses to acknowledge my presence, Mr. B Hammer. hard to be a rotebot and regurgitate talking points word for word like a good son if you don't understand the family programming, wouldn't you agree you're welcome gee whiz in any case sure?
I’m truly sad for you. The sociological scars of parental rejection will be tough to overcome. You seem wise beyond your years; you shall overcome.
Gee whiz, Zachriel, can’t you see how badly you have hurt your prodigy? Would it be so difficult to engage in the smallest of dialogue? Can’t you see Rotebot crying out for the love due to a son? How can you be so cruel? Have you no compassion?
DrTorch: Doesn't matter. Your claim was wrong.
Our claim concerned "scientists who have studied the problem". A survey of a group of people, the majority of whom admit they are not experts on climate science, and the majority of whom are not scientists, is not responsive.
They can avoid the worst of a nonexistent problem by making up nonexistent solutions but it will be expensive in any case no doubt.
Yeah. I thought about the expense as well B. Hammer. I can only speculate that this was a publicity stunt to showcase the durability of the truck with Alco picking up the tab. From the descriptions it was one tough truck. It was negotiating some very steep grades on unpaved roads. I found that to be impressive, particularly for the time.
And you are right, maintaining that roller chain on a trip like that must have been loads of fun. One wonders how the motor held up as well? No mention is made of blowing any engines up. If so, that is impressive as well for that era.
It was snowing again today in L.A.:
Expensive is the point and Al Gore is an example of the politically entrenched "scientists" wallowing in the trough. Government has spent decades creating a demand for climate scientists in order to get enough fake data to demand more political control of the peon. Money...Control...Power and all for the betterment of the elites.
"harnessing robust markets to furnish the economic growth necessary to develop new technologies and continued prosperity, while providing access to the fruits of industrialization to the developing world."
Let me interpret this.
It will require massive amounts of money paid to mostly union folks and the elite who support socialism but paid for by the working class most of whom will not be allowed to join the union or work on the green new deal.
"Homeless" drug addicts have destroyed Seattle (KOMO ABC News documentary):
"Seattle is Dying"
That is the opinion of 10 out of 10 tweakers. More likely legalizing all drugs will simply mean more children will be drugged and exploited by adults.
IF all drugs should be legalized do you also support ending prescriptions and allowing people to just go to the pharmacy and buy what they like?
indyjonesouthere: Expensive is the point and Al Gore is an example of the politically entrenched "scientists" wallowing in the trough.
Gore isn't a scientist, nor does he claim to be.
indyjonesouthere: Government has spent decades creating a demand for climate scientists in order to get enough fake data to demand more political control of the peon.
Are you saying the surface data, the satellite data, the ocean buoy data, the ice data, are all "fake"? Or is that just what you call data that you reject because you don't like it?
Anon: Let me interpret this.
Uh, no. Markets as in millions of individuals making independent decisions.
Another way to express the survey results:
97% of the 32% of scientists who support the lie would lose their funding if they did not support the lie.
Consensus is about as unscientific as it gets.
Zbot: Or is that just what you call data that you reject because you don't like it?
Funny. That's exactly what Michael Mann did when he threw out tree ring data that he didn't like.
That's exactly why some temperature stations were eliminated from the database - they didn't like the results that they showed.
That's exactly why the climategate emails show climate researchers plotting to keep certain papers out of the IPCC report.
Thank you, Zachriel for providing another glimpse into the dark, festering hole that is the progressive brain. Psychological projection is a ubiquitous feature of the prog mind.
