We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"Democrats Hate the Wall because Trump loves it"
More accurately the Democrats hate Trump more than they love their country. We are bleeding cash to support illegals, real blood from over 3000 people a year killed by illegals.
We need to change our laws around illegal immigration so that they can be returned back over the border within 24 hours. We need to end refugee status and re-evaluate all past refugee claims for fraud.
A few insane academic SJWs: A FEW???? There are waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
more than "a few".
Prop. 13: "With Republican influence in California on the wane and ascendant Democrats making tax fairness an issue, advocates are confident that the time is right to take a run at some legacies of the 1978 measure." YES!!!! Drive out the middle class!!!! Can you say "Tax Increase", boys and girls? Yes, I KNEW you could.
Carbon tax: Cut down CO2 enough, and your crops won't grow.
Carbon taxers don't care.
Ban private jets? What do you hate rich folks?????????? Well, it's the NYT, giving us one more unnecessary reason to despise, detest, and distrust the NYT. (I await the Gang of Z's reply on why I'm all wet.)
Democrats Hate the Wall because Trump Loves It: And they can get illegals to vote Dem.
Venezuela: IBD said, "Venezuela's collapse is fast becoming not just a humanitarian tragedy, but a destabilizing threat to Latin America and the U.S. As Venezuela continues to unravel, Maduro and his comrades will almost certainly lash out, requiring a U.S. response. Then what? Americans will discover that socialism isn't paradise, and it's certainly no joke." The socialists and the Dems (but, I repeat myself) will continue to NOT SEE the truth.
Sam L: Carbon tax: Cut down CO2 enough, and your crops won't grow.
There was plenty of naturally occurring CO2 in the atmosphere before industrialization.
CO2 has a long residency in the atmosphere. Even if humans stopped emitting CO2, the excess CO2 will remain in the atmosphere for centuries.
Sam L: Democrats Hate the Wall because Trump Loves It
Thought it was because a concrete wall is a 1st century solution to a 21st century problem. While fencing is appropriate in some areas, there are much better solutions to control illegal crossings based on modern sensing technology.
Donald Trump falsely claims Democrats 'oppose any effort to secure our border'
No worries Zak. Everyone knows this isn't about cutting the CO2 and it isn't possible for mere human activity to cut the CO2. This is and always was about taxes and legislative power.
You are right! The Democrats don't oppose any efforts to secure our border. The only oppose the effective efforts.
Anon: Everyone knows this isn't about cutting the CO2 and it isn't possible for mere human activity to cut the CO2.
Cost-efficient technology to remove CO2 from the atmosphere does not yet exist (other than planting trees). It is possible to reduce human emissions, but this can't create a situation where "crops won't grow" due to lack of CO2.
Anon: The Democrats don't oppose any efforts to secure our border. The only oppose the effective efforts.
A concrete wall across the entire border is a totem, not a rational policy. Democrats have, however, supported additional spending on border security.
TRANS WOMEN? What the hell is a trans woman? I guess a "trans woman" is another name for an *sshole. Hissy missy would be more appropriate. This mentally disturbed man is not only a thug but a very ugly woman. Yeah, sure, we should all reinforce his mental illness and call him a woman. Nope, ain't gonna happen.
The problem I have reading an article about a "trans woman" is that I think they mean "woman". Wouldn't it be more accurate to call this man a "trans man"? He is a man not a woman. his mental illness makes him think he is a woman but he is a man, So he can't be a "trans woman".
Could Venezuela's Socialist Disaster Get Any Worse? Just Ask Its Oil Company
That quote comes from a recent stunning report by Reuters on the downfall of Venezuela's oil industry is both upsetting and depressing. The collapse of PDVSA didn't happen overnight. After the failure of the PDVSA strike in 2003- an attempt to keep PDVSA independent of Chavista control- Chavez had free reign to do what he wanted with PDVSA.
In 2007, I had an exchange of e-mails with a petroleum engineering consultant. His reply:
I have been in Venezuela various times during the past 2 years and have noticed a significant deterioration of their equipment and infra structure so I would not be surprised about the report of rig losses. That was in 2007.
From your article:
Trump in March reluctantly signed a $1.3 trillion spending bill, setting aside his threats to veto it because it did not include all the money he wanted for a border wall.
The bill included $1.6 billion explicitly designated for new and replacement fencing along the southwest border. That amount also covered $38 million for border barrier planning and design, and $196 million for acquisition and deployment of border security technology.
So the Demonrats "want" to spend only $1.6B on fencing and not even all of that is for new fencing. Apparently, they would have us believe that a fence is more effective than a wall and that we only need a few miles of additional fencing to fix our porous border. This isn't even serious enough to laugh at.
Pedantic Random Factoid Gasbot is back. Locals utterly in shock.
The wall is advanced civilization's most sacred outline, ensuring the survival of countless peoples advanced enough to protect themselves against force and violence.
Gaslighters deconstruct civilization with meaningless postmodern lies that normals see right through.
mudbug: Apparently, they would have us believe that a fence is more effective than a wall and that we only need a few miles of additional fencing to fix our porous border.
Multi-layered fencing with sensing technology is almost always more effective than a concrete structure. The "wall" is a symbol, something to say you are doing something, but won't actually accomplish the goal.
The soundwall depicted only does a poor to fair job of blocking sound. It would not stop people from crossing if they were intent on doing so.
Maybe $50B Democrat border fences are better at the task at hand, huh Gasbot?
Normal humans hereby defer to your encyclopedic grasp of reality itself.
"A concrete wall across the entire border is a totem"
You guys must have a 1,000 acre farm to get enough straw for that man.
I've seen and heard a lot of Trump speeches, and have never heard him say that it must be a concrete wall. Remember the demonstration project down in California? They weren't all concrete and some were steel see-through designs. And Trump has specifically stated that not whole border would require a built barrier because of terrain and water features and so forth. My hope is that Trump will get the Democrats to focus on a "concrete wall', while insisting that they absolutely support an effective barrier, and then, if he plays up to form, pull that rug out from under them leaving them no place to stand. Neither Trump nor his supporters care a whit what kind of barrier is built as long as it works and represents a restricted and controlled border. If the Democrats can't get behind that, then ****'em and the nag they rode in on.
In other words, entire industries have no reason to exist; either concerning sound or human migration.
John Hyland: I've seen and heard a lot of Trump speeches, and have never heard him say that it must be a concrete wall.
"It's going to be made of hardened concrete, and ... rebar, and steel". Oh, and "Mexico is going to pay for the wall and they're going to be happy about it."
Gasbots have trouble with simple concepts, in this case the tricky "must". This much we know.
What we also know is that throughout history the freestanding "wall" implied masonry - of which the Chinese and medieval examples typify and of which concrete is a subset - while "fence" typically meant, you know, not a wall.
What we didn't know was that as comprehensive as their pedantic, reality-defining powers may be, apparently gasbots don't come programmed with the obvious.
Just kidding. We knew that too.
One hundred seventy-seven yards of alternating antifreeze moats and razor alligators are more effective than a Democrat Lego fence and inevitably demonstrate that my partisan construct is better than your partisan projection in creating arguments for no good reason whatsoever.
indyjonesouthere: The wall works great for Israel.
Great point, indyjonesouthere. Nearly all of the Israeli West Bank barrier is a multi-layered fence system with modern sensing technology. Physical walls are generally only used in urban areas where snipers have been a problem.
So far three hundred thousand Americans (normal human people persons) believe that the President will well manage eighteen million dollars of their own contributed money for a border wall about as well as they might the Israelis. Assuming the needs and conditions are equivalent, which they are not.
While this next part remains unconfirmed, I suspect they also trust the CiC - a lifelong commercial builder in New York city, no less - to select preferred construction for the task and terrain somewhat more than they do a random Internet Gasbot.
And how much "mult-layered fencing with sensing technology" can you build with the money left over from the $1.6B after repairing the old fence?
A wall is a symbol? Very few people get through such symbols wherever they are anywhere in the world. In fact, Israel estimates its wall is nearly 100% effective.
The best part is Israeli snipers snuffing the border wall climbers.
mudbug: In fact, Israel estimates its wall is nearly 100% effective.
The Israeli security barrier is nearly all fence, not wall.
Fun life expectancy test.
I am only projected to make it to 85 which is dying young in my family.
I got 101 years. But I suspect I will die at 84 (or before) like my dad did.
Lindsey Graham Reduces Trump’s Border Wall To Just A ‘Metaphor’
Trump: 'All concrete wall was never abandoned'
"An all concrete Wall was NEVER ABANDONED, as has been reported by the media," Trump tweeted. "Some areas will be all concrete but the experts at Border Patrol prefer a Wall that is see through (thereby making it possible to see what is happening on both sides). Makes sense to me!"
Nice try, kiddiez.
