We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
From where I sit, it seems to be because of a lack of critical thinking combined with the simple fact that imagining mysterious forces and mysterious people is much more fun than ordinary humdrum life and ordinary people.
Wasn't there an old song about "your mother and me, we're just ordinary folks..."?
Try hiding some candy while eating it from your children/grandchildren. Try sneaking a kiss from someone in front of a 3 year old. Where I'm going with this is it is human nature to pick up on what is trying to be hidden from you or what doesn't make sense or isn't logical. You can't even fool a toddler. As we get older, perhaps past puberty, our spidey senses get dulled. Perhaps too many false positives or too interested in real stuff to worry about the small stuff but we become "accepting". But then something happens that just smacks you in the face and your spidey senses begin to tingle. That is a real belief in what is often called a conspiracy theory. There are other better known conspiracy theories that are most likely political propaganda disguised as a grass roots conspiracy theory. There is a difference.
Some things just don't make sense. Then the people in charge, could be the politicians, the special prosecutor, the police/FBI, the officious board appointed to investigate or whoever suddenly start making stuff up to prove that there is nothing to see here. Then your spidey senses are vibrating. Was it a "conspiracy"? It doesn't matter. It could be one thing and then a conspiracy to cover it up. But whatever it is, whatever you call it it ain't right and you know it in your gut.
By the way, perhaps not the conspiracy theories we normally think of, but the Obama presidency is going to be the record holder for conspiracies, most of them carried out against the people, the constitution and good common sense. Hillary selling off 20% of our uranium to the Russians is the tip of the iceberg. So many icebergs so little time.
Speaking of that; who could possibly think selling off 20% of our uranium to the Russians was a good idea??
