Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Nat Hentoff, RIP


The last honest Liberal is dead at 91.

If James Madison or Thomas Jefferson were brought back to life and they looked at television and read the papers, they would not recognize the country.

RIP to a good one. His Free Speech For Me But Not For Thee was a good take-down of the hypocrisy surrounding the defenders of the First Amendment. And there's a very perceptive and prescient interview from 2009 with the man here: https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resources/oldspeak/america_under_barack_obama_an_interview_with_nat_hentoff. He knew what was coming, what many of us would take years to see. He knew.

One of the few on the left that I respect... but can you really say he was on the left? The "left" has moved so far to the left that the ideas promoted by who used to be on the vanguard are considered conservative now.
