We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Trump is the Great Disruptor. He is doing the Repub Party a great favor by going to where the votes are - the ordinary people of America like me. The wealthy will always be mostly Dems, as will (for no good reasons) the minorities and the effete snobs. But there are lots of other people in America, and they have felt voiceless in DC.
Winning an election is still very much about connecting personally with key voters and you can only do that if you present a clear personality or brand to the voters in the first place. If you're the person who sees Trump's personality/brand and have decided you hate everything about it, I have news for you: You're not the target audience. But you're still proof that Trump's messaging is at least very clear and that's often more than half the battle in business and politics.
...when “respectable” people won’t talk about things that a lot of voters care about, the less-respectable will eventually rise to meet the need. That’s what Trump’s doing. And a lot of people are cheering him on not so much because they’re fans of Trump personally as because they’re happy to see someone finally stand up to the PC bullies.
I'm sickened by all these latter day clairvoyants who can "just tell" Trump is the next Hitler "just because look how rude he is". He's running against a career criminal unless she's indicted for multiple felonies, in which case he'll be running against a balls out, lifelong communist.
I'm tired of hearing how complicated this is. It isn't if you're a serious human being. Trump is a flake. He isn't evil. The democrat party is evil. Time to get real.
Trump IS crazy like a fox. Clinton goes after him over Trump University. And then today (I'm sure totally by coincidence, the article couldn't have been written by Trump's people), Breitbart comes out with an expose on how Bill and Hillary Clinton used a for-profit educational company, "Laureate Education, Inc.," to direct millions of dollars to Bill in return for favors coming from the State Department.
I can already hear Trump: "You know, I've heard some disturbing things in the media, yes, some disturbing things, about Bill and Hillary using a phony educational institution, some sort of college or university they set up, to launder millions of dollars in bribes. Now I want to say right off the bat I don't believe a word of it, but it's still disturbing, and I think Hillary needs to immediately dispel the rumors that she was corrupt and got bribes at the State Department. You know, if she doesn't immediately provide convincing reasons, people might start to believe she is fundamentally corrupt. Now, mind you, I don't believe that for a second, not for a second, but it's not me who's important here, it's the American people."
The "least great generation", in their long march through America's institutions, turned them all into a bad joke. Why not the presidency? This is just perception catching up with reality. And, No, I am not blaming all Boomers.
Maybe this from my favorite Althouse blogger, Anglelyne will give reassurance:
I dunno. Western Europe has much "better" politicians, in terms of "professional" presentation, public-speaking skill, and keeping up a pretense of "substance" ("being the adult in the room" ha ha ha) but they're screwing up their countries even worse and faster than our clown club is managing to screw up ours.
Not all of us boomers are in the same category. The youngest of us who actually grew up in the early Seventies frankly looked back at our older brothers and sisters as spoiled brats who basically crapped everything up for us, and had no goal in life but to "find themselves." The young boomers were actually the young Ronald Reagan supporters. (Unfortunately, many of us then turned into Yuppies in the Eighties.)
To quote Anglelyne (Althouse blog):
“But then the big buffoon, the big clown shows up, and the more his opponents call him out as a buffoon, the more their own buffoonery is revealed. The more they complain about his contemptuous manners toward his opponents, the more contemptible those opponents appear.
A whole lot of transparently foolish speech put out by a lot of foolish people didn't seem to register with large swathes of the electorate for what it really was - the speech of foolish and incompetent people. Trump, the clown, is apparently pushing a significant number of those people to rub their eyes, clear their ears, and ask themselves, "Why on earth have I been taking these other chuckleheads seriously?")”
