We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Whoa, The Guardian, that will convince me. OK, maybe not, especially after this, "After a century of being derided". Derided? Freud was all the rage for at least the first half of the twentieth century. IIRC, Jacques Barzun in Darwin, Marx, Wagner: Critique of a Heritage found all three inadequate, possibly even evil, but Freud, PBUH, was there to lead us out of the abyss of materialism and into the glorius future.
One need not be a Freudian to believe in the unconscious. That seems to be an established fact. The rest of his theory needs study. Somevof it might survive, in which case he becomes an important scientist on theborder of maybe Newton, whosehysics are now known to be only approximate.
