We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"Donald Trump Gets Earful in Spanish"
Intentionally or not this reinforces what Trump and others are saying about the tsunami of immigration legal and illegal. These are NOT Americans. They are Mexicans, speaking Mexican, sending their money to Mexico, listening to the Mexican news and voting (often illegally) for Mexicans to remake America after the 3rd world that is Mexico. These Mexicans are not anything like the 2nd, 3rd and 4th genertion hispanics in America who are proud Americans these Mexicans came here for the free stuff and not to become Americans. Listen to them they hate America...
So the Virginia shooter wore Obama buttons to work (as an on-air reporter), gay (messy gay, but gay), and labeled everyone in sight a racist.
Obviously this can be traced back to the NRA who must be made to pay!
Eleven months this guy bounced around out-of-control. Seems that maybe Hulk Hogan got a raw deal.
Re: Shutting a pension plan actually costs taxpayers money
The article only looks at ending a pension but does not seem to look at modifying it.
Many pension plans as they are currently constructed are unsustainable. Workers haven't been putting in enough to account for the longer life spans of current and future beneficiaries. GM had the situation where they were paying more retired workers than current workers. It seems obvious that if there is a solution, it is to raise or implement contributions to the pension fund and probably also reduce benefits. This assumes that the pension plan would be mandatory. It's the same with Social Security.
These plans sounded good when they were set up but the demographics went against them in a big way. That's kind of the problem with inter-generational promises When the promise is no longer workable but you have a huge constituency vested in the status quo. The older generation is dependent on and entitled the promise made to it. In the case of Social Security, the younger generation is disincentivized to contribute since future contributions will go directly to current retirees.
Trust me, you can leave New York and not miss it one bit. I've lived in a packed eastern state. Lots of stuff to do. Activities abound. Shopping, cultural opportunities, etc.
But when I moved to a rural part of the West, I breathed in the piney air and drove the quiet streets...I didn't miss a thing.
Get out while you still can.

I cannot help but think that, beyond the desperately sad outcome of the incident itself, it somehow manages to conflate so many of the irreconcilable contradictions inherent in our modern political pieties: women, blacks, gays, gun control, you name it.
The usual professional grievance-mongers will have to do some not inconsiderable acrobatics to come up with a position on this one.
Alternately this story sinks out of sight like a budget surplus in a Democrat's administration.
Abortion, black on black murder, drugs. There are reasons why the percentage of Negros in the USA hasn't changed in the decades I've been here. I doubt the Hispanics will be as kind to them as we were.
its a damn shame that those legal immigrants you're trashing don't look and think (but especially look) exactly like you.
It's humorous that it's too complicate for you that if immigrants don't think like we* do, they'll change the culture... which is exactly the concern.
*We meaning more like the founding fathers who were guided by English common law built on a rigorous foundation of Christianity. Yes, there have been many immigrants who have arrived who don't think this way, and it's no surprise that they changed the culture.
Polyamory: A throuple? Of COURSE they think they are discriminated against.
Yep, it's a damn shame some of us don't want our country turned into a third world outhouse pit.
He didn't just wear Obama buttons to work, he wore them while reporting on an election, right at the polling place. That's not only journalistic malpractice, it's a violation of election law.
But he couldn't understand why he was let go, so he had to shoot some people to express his hurt. Oh, and it all had something to do with the Charlestown racist shootings, so it was just a coincidence that he shot a couple of people who personified his professional humiliation.
Moral of the story? Gun control, baby!
imagine: me, a Jewish citizen of the US, not shuddering in multiple kookgasms of the purported Christian* founding of the country. its not the 18th century anymore and it was never was the much beloved fantasy version of the 18th century ever. deal with it.
No. 2 trashes legal immigrants. because no one here seems to have any grasp of immigration issues beyond "immigration bad", I'm assuming that legal immigrants means legal permanent residents or naturalized citizens. they're here under rule of law. meaning you let them them in under your own rules and you put them on the road to citizenship and if you don't like Jews or Catholics or non-western Europeans as LPRs or USCs, is a little late for that, isn't it? so whose fault is it if immigrants "changed the culture"?
* which Christian principal justified the continued import of slaves into the 19th century? I'm curious, because one of us, and it isn't me, doesn't understand Christianity.
It's an inside baseball sort of thing. The media have a "damn the torpedoes, full PC ahead" state of mind, and this is one of the rewards. Let the media sort it out, preferably off-air.
I wonder if your nickname is a warning not to "poke the bear".
Let's retire the term illegal immigration and while we're at it fold in the type of legal immigration GWTW was referring to. Instead we'll call it by it's true name, "Colonization", by people planning to bring their language, culture, laws and loyalty (to parts south) to the undefended lands up north.
As Massasoit said to Squanto, "Whats up with the new guys?".
True about it never being a 'Christian paradise'. There were places in the American colonies where being a Quaker or Anabaptist was literally a capital offense. The violence between various Christian groups was real. In some places, Jews did fare well either.
Colonization is the right word. Using that word would have a huge effect on persuading people.
As for the bear, he's toothless and senile. But he is able to balance on top of a big red ball.
torch, you got burned again. getting under your thinning skin is always worth the effort, kid.
so, which Christian principal justified the continued import of slaves into the 19th century?
