Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

On Bernie: After the ego trip of the campaign and someone else gets to the general election, Bernie will return to Vermont as an even more insufferable dolt than he already is.
Several of the Prius drivers in our town have had "Hillary 2016" stickers on their cars for more than a year. They have finally succumbed to their internal conflicts and papered them over with "Bernie" stickers. "Climate Craziness of the Week: Center for Biological Diversity petitions EPA to list CO2 as a ‘toxic substance’"
Man, where are those killer plants they have in the movies when you need them? Plus, wouldn't that require all babies to be tattooed with an EPA warning label upon birth? And how on Earth is CO2 poisonous? Even in high concentrations, it still isn't poisonous, just O2 blocking. And finally, I sure hope the Coca Cola and Pepsi Cola companies wades into this. "Obama Channels Reverend Wright"
Read it and weep. Obama in 2004 was a serial micro-aggressor and promoter of "White Privilege". Last night, Larry Wilmore speculated that for the first 6 years Obama's White half was in control and now we are seeing his Black half. He was commenting on Obama breaking out into song at the Charleston Memorial, but.... In response to America is still racist
[quote] ‘The whole English-speaking world is haunted by the idea of human equality, and though it would be simply a lie to say that either we or the Americans have ever acted up to our professions, still, the idea is there, and it is capable of one day becoming a reality.’ -- George Orwell[quote] It is important to note that we are trying. And that says a lot for a country such as America whose culture is based upon the acceptance of a few ideals rather than ethnic origin "Barbarism is diversity; civilization is unity." And America was making great strides into civilization based on ideas, but of late the diversity police, migrating out from the universities, have assaulted the ideas and ideals of American civilization either consciously or unconsciously working to bringing about barbarism. That this bringing about of barbarism is the life's work of so many university ensconced "intellectuals" says a lot about the decline of the university and, especially, the Liberal Arts. Re: Battling Racism, Homophobia, etc.
It's interesting and a little frightening to see the progression of solutions to racism from calls for tolerance, to special treatment, to constant outrage, to government coercion. The solutions get more draconian as the situation continually improves. The solution to hard hearts is not a boot heel to the neck. The S. Ct. ruled last summer that the EPA could regulate CO2 as a pollutant. Would it really be any crazier to start calling it a toxin?
this is interesting. People cutting the cord on cable/satellite.
Apparently it is too expensive in this economy. From the article: According to a study by Digitalsmiths which is owned by TiVo, 8.2 percent of those responding say they have totally cut their cable or satellite service in 2014. That’s up 1.3% from the previous year. And even some more concerning news to the cable and satellite providers, another five percent plan to cut their service with another 3% going to switch to an online app or rental service in the next six months. Digitalsmiths says the high cost of cable and satellite is driving more people to cut the cord, but in addition to that, subscribers cite customer service and bad channels as reasons why they’re leaving pay TV. Once in nearly 100 million homes, ESPN as of February 2015 is in 94.4 million homes and other networks have seen drops as well, some not as big as the Worldwide Leader’s. http://awfulannouncing.com/2015/look-out-more-people-are-cutting-the-cord.html Re: absurd rent control
QUOTE: Williams’s assumption, which speaks generally to the progressive view of markets, is that there is never a good reason for rents to rise. Obviously, Williams was never a landlord. The hubris of people who know how businesses "should work" without any experience in any kind of business. My answer to them is if they think a business should run a certain way, buy one and show us all how it should be done. Until then, shut up. Just don't exhale! We are the least racist of nations - though if you want to give the Canadians the nod I won't object too strongly (though their First Nations might). Other countries are largely homogeneous racially, so they are not even playing in our league. Worldwide, neighboring tribes that are genetically pretty close are violent with each other, never mind people from actual different continents. Insofar as these various peoples are now mixing where they never have before, it's not working out that well. I give the western Europeans credit for trying very hard to accept and assimilate their new very-different countrymen. But so far, it's ugly. Oslo, Malmo, Lyon, Birmingham, Paris, London, Amsterdam...Not to mention centuries of prejudice against Jews and Gypsies that last until the present day.
At a minimum, they have no right to criticise North Americans. Re: Are white men gods?
My people thought Captain Cook was a god. Then he wore out his welcome, so we killed him, cooked him and ate him. That is why we say there is a little English in each of us. Aloha and happy 4th of July! You seem to be arguing in terms of rational, scientific concepts, here.
"toxic substance" == "bad juju". This is the way the EPA will likely rule, that CO2 is "bad juju". Anyone with sense knows that AGW isn't science any longer, as little as it originally may have been... |
