We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Remember, the schools with the best classroom memorials to Mike
Brown will be the ones with the lowest reading and math scores.
Oh, and I remember a recent post, at Instapundit, I think, of a school officials saying that they knew home schooled kids didn't work as hard as public school kids. It's amazing how little time it takes to learn when the time is spent on topic.
Re: UCLA student
It's amazing to me the lack of critical thinking that these lefties display. She's anxious to see racism everywhere but she says that the black cop should only help other blacks and ignore people of other races. Would she also say that white people should only help other white people and ignore those of other races? Wouldn't that be racist?
It seems absurd to even ask those questions here because they are so blatantly obvious but she is apparently incapable of hearing her own words. Is it because her education was so shallow that she is incapable of questioning her own dogma or does she really eschew the desire for racial reconciliation and pluralism?
RE UCLA LEFTISTS
Our company stopped hiring college graduates years ago. In Mark Twain's words, the problem was not so much what these indoctrinated twerps didn't know, but that what they know for sure that just isn't so.
Instead, we hire motivated high school graduates who didn't go to college for one reason or another and have been out on their own for a few years actually working and supporting themselves and learning how life really works.

This is driven by the labor unions and vote buying. You would be astounded to find out what common labor is paid in these construction jobs. Then once completed the workers milk the public coffers putting yur community into bankrutcy It does seem that they are going to do this with or without you. In Portland their Max train was voted down but the city and Metro did it anyway. The Max train is pretty but in fact it costs so much and serves so few that for tha same cost the government could have bought every Max rider a brand new Mercedes.
In states that allow citizens to place initiatives (or ballot measures) on the ballot you can fight it but it will take some effort. Drive a stake through the heart of this with dramatic initiatives. Demand that the city or county defund public transportation. Sounds dramatic but the core of this problem is the unions using public money to expand their base, their wages and benefits. It is never ending and you aren't going to stop this by nibbling around the edges. Stop the subsidies and get the taxpayers off the hook.

That number surprised even me. Everywhere you look you can see disposable income being eaten up by events beyond the peasants control. I believe 0bamacare is the major culprit. Skyrocketing premiums and sky high deductibles coupled with people either losing their company benefits or having their hours cut back due to 0bamacare has had to have caused terrific damage to the economy. In addition, how many more people are unemployed or working lower wage jobs than they were a year ago?
Meanwhile, as noted in the above links, the Government steamroller continues to run out of control. More business crushing regulations coupled with the EPA's ceaseless attempt to de-industrialize the USA continue unchecked.
The outlook is grim.
Ponzi: Treasury Issues $1T in New Debt in 8 Weeks—To Pay Old Debt
From the article:
"The Daily Treasury Statement that was released Wednesday afternoon revealed that the U.S. Treasury has been forced to issue $1,040,965,000,000 in new debt since fiscal 2015 started just eight weeks ago in order to raise the money to pay off Treasury securities that were maturing and to cover new deficit spending by the government.
At the end of October, according to the Treasury’s Monthly Statement of the Public Debt, the total debt of the federal government was $17,937,160,000,000. "

vdh discusses the rise of government lawlessness in the USA.
From the article:
"What separated the United States from a Peru or Nigeria or Mexico or Laos or Russia was the sanctity of the law, or the idea that from the highest elected officials to the least influential citizen, all were obligated to follow, according to their stations, the law. Under Obama, that sacred idea has been eroded. We live in a world of illegal immigration and amnesties, Ferguson mythologies, and alphabet government scandals,”
What Media Gets Wrong About Israel: Pretty much everything; lies do that.
Love the analogy, but how many of those MAX riders could afford to put gas in those Mercedes, let alone insure and maintain them.
Its not just the unions, many dollars in bond underwriting, legal work, financial advising, consulting fees, outreach workers, environmental reviews, etc. Its quite a full employment act for the gentry too.
Got the bad news on Friday when I went in to the doctor to deal with some complications from a bad cold, that my doctor is going to take early retirement at the end of the year because of Obamacare. He said he's tired of dealing with it. He has sold his practice to a healthcare chain.
He told me to call back this morning for a follow up reference to a specialist if I didn't feel better. Still feeling the same, I called his office this morning to ask for the referral. I was put on hold for 20 minutes, and finally got an answering service who said my message would be relayed to my doctor. I then got a response 4 hours later from another anonymous person who said that my request was being processed and I would hear back when an approved specialist was located. We'll see when that happens.
What I am dealing with healthwise is just a nuisance. But imagine if I had been in serious shape, I could be dead by now.
When I used to see my doctor, he was a cheerful upbeat guy. On Friday, he looked absolutely beaten down.
I never owned an aircraft that saved me time or money.
Off topic, but I love this commercial.
I call it, an urban liberal boils an egg.
I do have the the sense that the working class people are being exploited. The Liberal Arts major on the other hand is using what she learned in college, looking out the window. I'm not sure if the egg being boiled being brown is symbolic or not.
The significance of the cost of Max is all the more important when you understand that all of the Max routes simply replaced an existing bus line. If the goal was to provide a reasonable cost public transport system there was one already in existence. A part of the decision to go to light rail is that the anti-private car lobby of Portland has this dream of a car free America. I suspect that for that lobby busses and their use of pubic streets was also something they want to eliminate. Understand that Portland Or. not just left leaning they have toppled over onto their heads from leaning so far left. They make socialist blush and anarchist cheer. If they could they would ban cars altogether and only allow bikes on the roads.
For what it's worth a note to anyone living in a city that is planning to implement light rail. Portland discovered that a light rail station equates to increased crime. The gangs and the unorganized thugs use light rail to go to the better parts of town to commit crimes. So a light rail station within 1/4 mile or so of your house translates into higher risk for you and your family of being mugged, beat up, knifed or shot. Also simply riding the light rail after the rush hour dies down is life threatening.
