We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Sounds like the Salon writer don't like it when the table is turned.

Interesting suit in Alabama, where environmental laws are invoked to shutter a competitor, via the the Montgomery Advertiser.

File and suspend, another great idea that has come around to bite. How about a cap on benefits, say 102.5% (a number plucked out of you know where) of poverty level income for a single adult and taxation to support that level.

Rather then cap SS benefits why not take a logical and sustainable step and pay benefits to the recipient at an amount consistent with standard accounting procedures. That way SS won't go broke and no one would be paid excessively. The primary problem with SS is that it is controlled by politicians who use the benefits to garner votes. I am honestly suprised that no one has yet publicly called for SS to be paid to illegal aliens who vote. Congress decides who gets the benefits and how much regardless of the recipients contributions. If you, a citizen, fail to work 40 quarters then you, a citizen, will not be eligible for SS when you retire. However if you immigrate to this country at age 65, for examle if your daughter sneaks into the country and has a baby in the country and is later given amnesty and then chooses to bring in her mother aged 65, the 65 year old who was not a citizen and did not contribute to SS will get SS benefits!! Is this a great contry or what? All of the Castro regime exiles who came here got SS benefits regardless of qualificatin for them. If you are a member of the favored gender you can get full benefits without ever having contributed to SS. SS has been turned into a vote buying slush fund. For anyone who works and plays by the rules to suggest that their own SS benefits should be capped as though "they" are the problem is naive. SS is a totally self funded system that the government has perverted by stealng money from it and using the benefit payout to buy votes and now that the system is showing cracks as a result of this criminal mismanagement the criminal mismanagers want to mismange it even more! Incredible.

In the article, Justice Kagan is quoted:

To which the author counters that this is wrong because the contraceptive entitlement is a regulation and not part of the law.

While that is an important point, what is more important is the question whether Congress can dream up "rights" funded by their employer or anyone else. Even if Congress had included a "contraceptive mandate" in Obummer care, it would be irrelevant as there is nothing in the Constitution that gives the government power to force somebody (or a company) to give you something counter to his religious beliefs (or counter to a negotiated contract).

Lowered expectations: My wife told me, some time after we married, that she thought her picker was broken. She'd gone out with guys who were less than she wanted, and she'd made a list of 10 things she was looking for. Said I hit two she hadn't though of.

Every job seems to have it's own jargon, and many people like to talk shop. A friend of mine hated talking shop, and he tried changing the subject to meteor showers. Elsewhere, I've seen grits used.

"Clark County rancher Cliven Bundy has been fighting a range war with the federal government for nearly 20 years, but this time around, he’s getting help from unexpected sources located about 85 miles away in Iron County.

In a notice sent Tuesday directed to the Bureau of Land Management deputy director Neil Kornze and the Nevada BLM state director Amy Lueders, the Iron County Commissioners and Sheriff Mark Gower warned that any action taken by the BLM to gather and confiscate Bundy’s cattle currently grazing on Clark County public lands would warrant Iron County to begin immediately taking steps to reduce the number of feral horses in Southern Utah.

“You are officially put on notice that at the moment any action in Clark County, Nevada is taken to gather and confiscate private cattle without managing your own responsibility of feral horses in West Iron County to appropriate management levels, orders will be given to the Iron County Sheriff, deputies and other authorized agents to take necessary means to reduce the numbers of feral horses . . . This is not a threat. This is a plan of action,” the notice states."

"DOJ Rolls Out Transgender Sensitivity Training for Police". Yeah, no knock raids where you kill people for walking toward the door and scare the living heck out of their kids are ok. But, call a "transgendered" person the wrong thing and Eric Holder will personally have your A$$.
