We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

The site about the offer to build the website for free is just a link to an ad page - may want to double check.
Works for me. Goes to Gateway Pundit.
I can see why they never accepted the offer. The grifters wouldn't get their cut. If the total amount of money siphoned to cronies by this administration was ever totaled up, it would stagger the imagination.
Male brain different from the female, those researchers need to be given a bravery award in these PC times for stating biology matters.
Can Iran be trusted? Only when you grok while they play chess, we play poker.
The Sowell and Salon articles seem to say the same thing, you get what you expect and teach. Which appears to be "relax and leave the driving to us" to quote a Greyhound ad.
"Sowell: How ‘victimhood’ kills achievement"
much too simplified. In the US it may be valid, in the UK those kids are deliberately destroyed by a system that's stacked against white kids of any level of society.
Black (and other "minority") kids get pampered, special treatment, preferential admission to decent schools, support for buying schoolbooks, free membership of social and sports clubs, etc. etc. Often their families even get free luxury housing.
Same stuff white kids only get if their parents have enough of an income left to afford it after paying their excessively high taxes, mandatory union fees, rent/mortgage, and put food on the table.
RE: HOSPITAL PRICES SOAR
The author and her economic "experts" indicate their frustration at trying to understand the reason for high hospital prices, but they have looked at the problem from the wrong direction. They make the incorrect assumption that the price of the input determines the price of the output and they ignore the effects of subsidies.
The price of the goods and services (inputs) that a hospital must purchase in order to produce hospital services (its output) does NOT determine the price of the output. The price of the output is determined by supply and demand. Low supply of hospital services and/or high demand for hospital services will drive the price of hospital services up. That the price of the inputs may be high is caused by (rather than a cause of) the high price of the outputs, i.e. a high price of the outputs signals that there is a relatively high demand for the inputs leading to a rise in the price of the inputs.
What drives this demand? A better question would be, "Why isn't this demand limited (by the high price)?" The answer lies in subsidies. When Mr. Patient perceives that someone else is paying for the hospital services that he receives, he places no restraint on his demand for the services. He will demand more and more services even if the benefit to cost ratio is very low, i.e. even if the cost of care for his elderly father is $20,000 per day, neither he nor his father nor any family member bothers to weigh the costs versus the benefits because the cost to them appears to be zero. Hence, any benefit appears to be a gain.
Now, coming from the NYT, it's very easy to understand why the author and he economists fail to recognize these truths - doing so would expose the fact that their leftist policies and programs (and not the free market) have created the problem and that leftist solutions, rather than being a potential fix for the problem, will only worsen the problem or create new ones.
Iran can be trusted. They can be trusted to backstab you, to do whatever is in their own best interest no matter what that treaty says they signed (which after all has no value according to their law as all treaties with infidels are null and void according to their law).
As long as you understand that then yes, they can be trusted.
LOL. I agree. Politicians and bureaucrats won't get their cut, so they can't agree to let things get done for free...
I think you posted 3 hours after me - and when I clicked the link just now, it did indeed take me to Gateway. Earlier, it was linking to some ad network which I do business with...so my guess is BD fixed the link.

"HPV, an infection that causes cervical, throat, penile, and anal cancers."
According to the National Cancer Institute the cause of cancer is unknown.
Exactly, the chess master thinks several moves ahead (including your moves) while the poker player relies on bluff and the luck of the draw.
Might want to look at what cancer.gov says about head and neck cancers and HPV-16.
Katie Couric is a strong, powerful woman with a unique and capable mind who has shattered glass ceilings and broken barriers to entry and success of women in media. Her intellect is a role model for rich, white women throughout America.
I can say without irony that I hope everyone who believes Katie Couric is a real reporter takes her advice on vaccinations. I hope all of Katie’s friends, co-workers, and acquaintances do as well.
I’m sure her advice on vaccines will be as good for them as her advice on politics.
hmm, demand for medical care is driven in no small part by necessity.
I'm not going to not (for example) break a leg because the cost of getting it splinted has gone up $10.
I've precious little choice in the matter.
Of course I may decide it's so expensive to get it splinted I can't afford it and must instead spend the rest of my life as a cripple, unable to perform my job which requires me to stand or walk all day long.
Or I end up with some serious infection. Choice is to get it treated or die.
Thus in healthcare a lot of the demand is given, and is only going up as the population ages.
Where changes can be made is in elective procedures, like cosmetic surgery, abortions (except where there is medical necessity of course, like one being needed to save the life of the mother), things like that.
And unnecessary ER calls, which we've here reduced by requiring a permit from a GP (which can be obtained usually by calling ahead and getting a case number after explaining your symptoms to the triage nurse on the phone).
A lot of the people who go to clinics and other forms of immediate medical care do not have a problem that requires medical attention. Children with colds and sniffles mostly. But it's free to them. They are on Medicaid or some other form of welfare driven free healthcare so their first response is to take them to the free clinic. No reason for any applied common sense or homecare when health care is free. When it costs something, even a small co-pay the beneficiary tends to learn more about what requires medical attention and what is just a cold not requiring medical intervention. This in a nutshell is what is wrong with anything that is "free".
"Free" healthcare will mean abused health care rationing and long waits for meaningful healthcare. "Free" healthcare will mean that someday you or your parents will be denied lifesaving healthcare because of the costs and your age while "free" healthcare will be provided to millions of illegal aliens. "Free" healthcare is the end of the best healthcare the in the world. We will be reduced to waiting for months for CT scans just as every socialized health care system in the world does.
Did you know that in England the prescribed treatment of appendicitis is bed rest to see if it gets better and if it gets worse they treat it with anti-biotics. Why? To save money. That is the highest priority of socialized health care. In England the elite have access to private health care. In the U.S. our elite are already being exempted from participating in Obamacare.
Wait, 6 out of 10 believe Iran can not be trusted? Doesn't that make their approval rating better than POTUS?
