We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
She's still got a whole lot to learn. To get where the people behind Obama are going, she should re-watch with her new eye maybe such films as Dr Zivago, One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovitch, and perhaps
Buddy, I thought The Cancer Ward more stinging in it's rebuke of the nanny state. In my mind the libs are blind or grossly underestimate the failings of humanity. They seem to believe the remedy to mankind's flaws is a kind of harmonic convergence. Like the old Coca Cola commercial-I'd like to teach the world to sing...
How does one argue with such superior logic?
On the other hand I have a tune for you. I can't remember if it was you or Mudbug that turned me onto Old Crow Medicine Show but I wanted to add something to Maggie's cross cultural musical palate. Here is the old Cohen standard done by Scandinavians. I think the gap tooth guy has one of the most interesting voices I have heard in a while.
--a deep breath of fresh calming air ideed --thanks --i needed it. Heck, i always need it. We all always need it.
That scene in the Polish film Katyn is said to be an exact reenactment of first-person accounts. It's about a real event, but what i was after is a vision of the real end game of state control. It's always the same --nobody can notice when a total-power system gets just a wee bit stronger than the flora and fauna of the natural world, because its not yet in total power, so it looks different --looks like all the ilk. Thus does Katyn become inevitable long before it blooms --the secret police troops in the film are clean-cut teenagers, but they never look up. Bent to the work, might as well be harvesting the fields. They weren't even at war with the Polish gentry they were 'liquidating'. The Poles were at war with Hitler, but not Stalin --hence when the reds moved into Poland under the peace treaty with Hitler, the Polish army didn't fight them --it was an arrangement, and almost a relief to have their help maintaining a western Poland the nazis would not attack due to the Molotov/von Ribbentrop Pact signed the year before (and shredded the year after).
In the film we see how piecemeal security measures (Polish and Russian cooperation to strengthen the treaty line between nazi-occupied and free Poland) slowly coralled the at-first oblivious Polish officer corps, gentry locals, and local urban intelligentsia.
The part of the film just before the youtube excerpt shows the Polish gentlemen (professors, soldiers, land owners, business owners, skilled professionals) slowly becoming aware of the fate that had already long before, in the salad days of fraternal solidarity with their fellow Slavs the Bolsheviks, been decided by a signature on a state order in the Kremlin.
20,000 murdered in 1940 in the Smolensk area --deep in the Katyn forest --and every one of them the 1% --the people Obama has fingered and for now only wants to pay up more --in return for relief from the 1% finger --because they didn't start that business, anyway.
Obama can't quite yet manage a Katyn Forest --but would you bet money that if he could, he wouldn't?
You probably say 'no' --that you wouldn't bet he wouldn't. But the truth is, that choice is gone, you've already bet 'yes'.
you bet, Brian --but i still am having trouble getting to some sort of bottom fact that is somewhere between what the cheapness of life becomes when the bottom level of corruption is reached, and the fact that a barked order from above and those kids doing the killing would've dropped their ropes and pistols and happily gone fishing with prisoners.
The hideous power of the thought of hideous power.
--if everyone could manage to quit following orders at the same time then (poof) the hideous power vanishes. From levelling cities to nothing at all, in the blink of an eye.
If only --if only --something or other.
Damn, enter a grown man with a thought to put into words, exit a babbling high school sophomore, feh.
