We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
The Wizard of Bristol. Hell of a boat builder. Heck of an inventor - twenty something sailing hardware inventions, developed what is known as the "Herreshoff Rule" which is a method of handicapping different sailboats so they can race together and last, but certainly not least, developed a way to loft scantlings using formulas rather than trial, error and experience.
His son L. Francis "Frank" Herreshoff was no slouch either. He wrote several books (two first issue editions of which I am the proud owner - The Common Sense of Yacht Design and Sensible Cruising Designs, became an expert in the design of small craft (canoes, kayak's, etc., - John Gardner of Mystic Museum studied his designs extensively and several of Gardner's designs are direct descendants of Herreshoff's)
