We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I only wish we had had 200+ years of progress. It seems to me that the "progressives" (nanny-statists who hate freedom and progress) brought that to a halt around 1900, if not earlier, and since then we've had 110 years of regress.
Beautifully done. If this had been started in 10,000 years BP there wouldn't have been these countries, but everybody would have been down in the left hand corner. Repeated in 400 BP (or even 300 BP) they would still be there. Why all of a sudden, so to speak, did so much start to change to produce this story?
I think he meant agricultural technology. The real science that attempts to make land more productive for food production. Not the politically driven religionous attempt to make something useful out of garbage or methods of generating electricity at a coerced higher cost.
Did you not watch the video? Since 1900 the world has go into hyper-speed when it comes to progress towards a wealthier and healthier society. I'm not sure how your "nanny statist" comment comes into play there. This is raw facts. Regardless of political persuasion it shows remarkable progress and nowhere NEAR regress.
Amazing graphics. The big dip at the 1918 flu was impressive but why didn't he comment on China when it took that massive dive at about 1960. That great leap forward, doesn't look so great from this point of view.
The Polar Bear community wants to congratulate the humans for their rise in health and wealth. We seriously wanted to be part of the discussions, but the ice crises at home has us very preoccupied so we send our regrets. From the looks of it we won't be attending future gatherings.
Seriously, in a zero sum universe, the rise of the human species comes at the expense of other species and ecosystems on the planet.
A recent study in the UK stated that the islands resources capacity can only sustain 26 million humans. The UK's current population is 65 million.
Unless the populations numbers come down the planet and most of the innocent living creatures, not responsible for any of this destruction, will be going down with it.
