We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Consider, if you have not done so, adding a comment to today's Grandpa post. We'll make it an annual repost, a website Keepsake.
How we think our forager ancestors lived. Like hippies, shared women and shared food.
Ask a (science) Nobel Laureate. Cool. My question: Are numbers a real reflection of reality, or just a handy human invention?

President Kick Ass cannot even handle a pet dog. Pathetic. Even when my kids were little, they would not put up with that from our dogs. That is now a worthless dog, and it is the owners' fault. How your dog behaves is a reflection of you and your training - or lack thereof, so analyze this:

BD... you say Daniel Ellsberg is "still crazy after all these years?" I just read that interview he did with the Spiegel and there isn't anything crazy there except he said he might vote for Obama again. What he says about the the entire sorry state of affairs which he thinks is, in reality, the 3rd term of the Bush administration, was really quite candid and insightful. Bush was a DISASTER... and Obama is only doing more of the same. These Presidents are only servants to the corporations and everybody else, the planet, too... can go spin down the toilet.
An untrained dog is tantamount to animal abuse, in my book. I mean morally and ethically, not legally.
I could have that pup heeling in ten minutes.
The Koehler Method of Dog Training. I'd give it twenty seconds to have him walking on a slack leash.
Covered nicely in Vicki Hearne's Adam's Task; see the chapters on Washoe and How To Say Fetch.
Ignore wretched cover blurbs on Hearne's books. Hearne took no prisoners.
The dog is walking him not the other way around.
Further evidence of his lack of leadership skills.
Clearly not an alpha in his own house.
Thanks for the link! Way cool. Feeling so bad for doggie.
Thanks for the link, BD.
Insightful? It sounded like more of the same old leftist claptrap to me. He's against both wars - maybe he would have favored Bill Clinton's response to terrorism. He was for prosecuting phone companies who were asked by the government for cooperation. He wants to close Gitmo - I guess those guys would do just fine in a supermax after the were prosecuted by that peach of an attorney general, Holder (were they given their Miranda rights?). He's not at all concerned about the debt he's piling up or O's treatment of our allies - especially Israel.
Bush was a big disappointment on several fronts, but I long for those days now. In fact, I'd even prefer Carter to O! O is by far the worst, most incompetent, anti-American president we've probably ever had. The sooner we are rid of him, the better. It's hard to imagine how we could do worse (easier when you consider some members of the Democratic congressional and senatorial delegations - Maxine Waters and Babs Boxer spring to mind).
Don't feel badly for the doggie, Sissy. He's in charge He's having the time of his life, dragging his human around.
And I would never, ever, feel badly for Obama, who has wrought so much misery throughout our country in so short a time.
I am surprised the White House let that be photographed, as it does not show NObama in a very flattering light. Guess the photo-op got set up before NObama's handlers realized that the dog was in command of the POTUS.
Assertive and alert. In control. Ready for anything.
And then there's the man following...
Are numbers a real reflection of reality, or just a handy human invention?
Numbers are a human invention giving us the ability to define a rational definition of reality assuming that reality is not just an overlay on the blank template of an infinite universe.
Now - where is my Nobel prize?
Dogs can sense weakness even faster than people. I've had poorly trained dogs as big as St. Bernards and Mastiffs walking correctly on leash once they understand who the boss is.
Portugese Water Dogs are obnoxious animals. There is one that lives three doors down from me who has bitten more than one living creature in our neighborhood, including my own spaniel mix.
It was a terrible choice for the White House.
This is the guy who is going to whip some one's ass.
Almost as funny as Clinton calling someone a sinner.
My guess is that the 0bama/dog pic is an attempt to show The Won as just an ordinary guy. Apparently his handlers never considered the photo would reflect lack of expertise or incompetence.
Lust on yanks for yalls' dangerous muslima.
What Liaison Dangereuse's camera did not catch is the IED belt with chicklettes AIDS-dirty syringes strapped to chest.
Lust on boys and girls.
All pet dogs are worthless, BD.
Methinks, pettin' dogs is an aberration which turns critters good fer nuthin'... it just ain't natural.
I wager, Hussein0 and his brood kiss that good fer nuthin' critter on it's mouth, too.
However, unnatural and unholy is to be expected from the Muhammadans at every turn despite, Prince Charles's esteem fer the miscreants.
An undisciplined dog is a reflection on the owner. There is also the point that this Dog Owner is unwilling to use the expertise around him. Surely there are highly capable Secret Service or military dog handlers around the White House. All he has to do is ask.
Maybe after O finds out who's ass to kick, he can get some lessons on how to control his bitch. Then he can get to the dog.
