Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

This is the bill that legalizes Roe V Wade.

But it's this kind of language that scares the hell out of me:

SEC. 6. RETROACTIVE EFFECT.

This Act applies to every Federal, State, and local statute, ordinance, regulation, administrative order, decision, policy, practice, or other action enacted, adopted, or implemented before, on, or after the date of enactment of this Act.

(re-writing history made easy... just apply this statement to the end of every bit of loony legislation they write, you know they will)

I think we ought to take another look at the "Fairness Doctrine." Instead of being up in arms about it, consider that all those liberal tv news stations and NYTimes wanna bees will have to add an EQUAL amount of CONSERVATIVE anchors and journalists to their staffs! We just might get really "fair and balanced" news for once - wouldn't that be a treat? Rush & other conservative radio talk show hosts can get prime-time tv shows on MSNBC, CNN, ABCNEWS, etc. Maybe Rush can co-anchor the evening news with Katie Couric!

It is my admittedly unedumacated understanding that the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" as it is currently proposed, only address radio broadcasting.

I truly hope that someone can correct me on this.

I think the first thing he'll do is realize that in order to stay in power, he will have to move to the center. This particular Act might be the very last thing he decides to do. He'd alienate some people in the liberal camp with this one. His previous record on this is the worst ever. He'll not want to remind people of it.

I hope. As it looks, Medvedev has his attention right now. Welcome to the White House, Mr. President.

At my nephews wedding reception the kids had a dance circle where the performer would do their stuff (breakdancing, one armed handstands, pretty amazing some of it..) before pointing at the next guy who’s turn it would be to perform. Then it was my turn. I took off my shirt and bounced my belly around.

(*crickets, with a few disgusted looks*)

But the mature women swooned. Really.
