Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Wednesday, October 29. 2008Rick Moran tries to read Obama's mindIs Rick right or wrong about this? I have no idea. I think this is Rick's best, and perhaps most optimistic guess. A quote:
I think Rick is saying that Obama probably wants to extend the Roosevelt statist, 1930s-style revolution. That's what Hillary had in mind too, with her "politics of meaning" which she fantasized might replace religion - but she knew a thing or two about economics because she really liked money, and this fellow appears to know nothing about economics. On the other hand, for a guy who has never had a real job he's got lots of cash in the bank...funny how wealthy the Lefty pols always seem to be, but "they care" - especially after they get theirs. Read the whole thing. I'd be interested in our readers' reactions. Trackbacks

Wrong, Theo. He has a mind. Problem is, he's never had a real job.
If the result is socialism or socialism light then the effect will be the same...both just as dangerous.
The article serves to illustrate the most salient point, with Obama we have no idea what we're getting.
I think Obama will stagger under the weight of his desires vs. the desires of a population split almost equally for him and against him. He'll soon learn that if he wants to stay in office and keep members of the house on his side, he will have to move in the opposite direction he aspires to move.
The notion Moran displays of Obama overturning or reforming America is almost funny. This isn't the 1930's. For every move to the left, the right will push back - full democratic congress or not. It doesn't matter if you're right, left, or in the middle, American individualism is not so easily hijacked as every other opinionated writer or talking-head seems to think. Obama will learn this the hard way as his halo fades to smoke on the water by the reality of his having to please everyone.. or else. ` That's an optimistic take, Meta. I hope you're correct.
That is a good point though about American 'individualsm'... I'll stretch it a bit and add, also in some ways two year olds. The harder you push for a certain behavior the more resistance you encounter. Initially. Trouble is, is that two year olds usually succumb to entreaties to behave and 'do what I say'. I hope this is a crappy analogy. And we can all just change our diapers after the next four years and get on with an American like the one we have today. Luther,
"...'do what I say'." is not in the fabric of America's DNA. Here's the title of the first book on Obama's first year in office: "The Shit and the Pendulum". By Eddie A. Woe ` Yes, of course... at its essence you are right, not built in at all. And that is what I was saying, though it came out confused. The only times 'we' are like that is when we unite for the common good. We'll take orders then... and only then.
Haha... that's a good title, I especially like the author's pseudonym. BO may well feel that way after that first year. If the worst happens and Obama is elected, I can forsee a repeat of the last 8 years, except this time the Republicans will be doing the sniping from the get go, waiting to strike some paralyzing blows. But a more likely model could be '92-'94 when Clinton came in with a Democrat Congress and quickly faltered. In '94 the Republicans won 52 seats in Congress and took the place back after 40 years.
Unfortunately, they failed to follow through and take back the White House in '96. This time, though, if the '94 scenario in Congress is played out in '10, i.e., big Republican gains, I think the day after the election will begin Hillary's campaign to unseat O in the '12 primaries in the return grudge match to beat all grudge matches, the Little Rock Shysters vs. The Chicago Thugs in that never ending soap opera called "Lusting After Power". Then the Republican candidate coasts in practically by default in the wake of the Democats internecine warfare. This could clearly mean a Palin- ? ticket in '12. Hhhhmmmm. It is this endless 45-45 split battling to bring 6% of the remaining 10 over to their side that is really getting old. How much longer can the country stand this? We've already paid a huge price. Thank God the Republicans refuse to throw in the towel. The left always keeps their Che Tees handy along with their guerilla warfare strategy which postulates that the enemy can be eventually brought down by a determined foe prepared to stay the course for however long it takes. The left must be licking their chops thinking they just might do it this time! How sweet it is! How scary it is! So, do all you can to get as many voters as you can to vote McCain-Palin on November 4, especially in the key swing states, and turn back the tide one more time! GMP, Meta and Luther,
I think it will be different this time if Obama is elected. As a narcissist who lacks empathy, Obama has a history of eliminating competition and trying to crush dissent or those with opposing views. My evidence for this includes (i) pulling interviews and stopping access to the few in the media, like the Orlando TV station, who ask tough questions, (ii) calling the dogs out to try to crush and discredit Joe the Plumber, (iii) using legal tactics to remove opposition from the ballot so he could run unopposed, (iv) disabling security features so that Mickey Mouse can make a credit card contribution and not disclosing his donor list, (v) supporting partial birth abortion and leaving babies who survive abortions to die, (vi) sending 30 lawyers and 82 operatives (numbers I've obtained from reading) to Alaska to dig up dirt on Gov. Palin to try to destroy her, (vii) his comments in his book about choosing his friends carefully and his seeking out people with Marxist beliefs (e.g. Ayers, Dohrin, Wright, Pfleger, Khalidi, etc.), and (viii) his chronic lying about who he is, what he believes in, who his friends are and what his policies will be given they are ever changing. Of course, there are many more examples, including he infomercial tonight. (Can you say snake oil salesman?) Obama is untrustworthy and the Democrats know it. Reid, Schumer, Frank, Dodd and Pelosi are also political whores who only care about staying in power. They know that Obama will turn his dogs loose on them if they step out of line. I would expect Obama to make an early example of punishing a loyal party member who dares to dissent to send a message to the rest. Again, I view Obama as a narcissist of the worst kind. He is shallow and superficial when it comes to everything except for obtaining and maintaining power. That is why he is so dangerous. Of course, I hope I am wrong, but my mind, my experience and my instincts tell me otherwise. Barrett,
The word is 'malignant narcissist', and you are right in defining Obama as such. The only thing that makes him not as smart as you give him credit for is that he underestimates people. That's a quality of his malignancy. He's been fighting an anonymous 'enemy' for the campaign and has been succored by his crowds' ebullient responses to his empty rhetoric. I think within two weeks of gaining the presidency, he will falter when he comes face to face with people just like him - with one exception: They will do anything to stay in power and the sight of cheering crowds will be like a little pair of arms waving in a rear-view mirror. I don't think he'll know what hit him. ` Meta,
If you are right (and I hope you are) and Obama is delivered an early major political defeat, maybe he will become more cautious. Nevertheless, I have my reservations. I think it is possible that Reid and Pelosi will ram anything he wants through Congress, emboldening him. Needless to say, Pelosi and Reid are intellectual and character midgets in my opinion. They will be swept up in the whole power grab thing. The history of malignant narcissists who have gained power of this kind has been dreadful. "The history of malignant narcissists who have gained power of this kind has been dreadful."
You are right. They're extremely dangerous because no matter how often they say they 'feel your pain', a narcissist by definition is incapable of such empathy. Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd, Gorelick and Obama. What a witches stew of mirrors. I have no doubt the glory of winning will suffice in the short term to keep them working together (for our good), but in the long run I think their personality-disordered thinking will engender some hellatious in-fighting. Their type is all about me, and they don't want anyone else infringing on their ME. I was reading your comment and instantly thought of George Bush. He's no narcissist, and he's had to fight a head wind all throughout his presidency. It makes me sad to think of how he's portrayed and how he'll be sent packing. He is a good man. I just hope historians come to that conclusion, and if Obama wins, for sure they will have the real rot on record to use as comparison. A smart historian might note that leadership is standing behind those you lead as often as you stand in front of them. Obama doesn't even know what standing behind means. His eyes scan for what people can do for him; not what he can do for people. `

The British people have never been noted as a peace loving quietened race....40 years of inexorable leftist progression has left us emasculated....it can and it does happen so do not underestimate the cumulative effects of the next maybe 8 years.
Yes, Phil, I like that ticket, Palin-Jindal, or Jindal-Palin, either way. I think those two would put a bold, fresh face on the tired old GOP, a young, energetic, superstar team for 2012 who could outflank O by a country mile.
I just love "Bobby", the good ol' boy Guv from LA! Heh, heh, from what I''ve seen of Bobby J, he can relate to the Bubbas and Joe The Plumbers as well as the lofty academics, a real political talent mixing brains and people skills, a formidable opponent for O or any left liberal. These two are the true embodiment of the American Dream, a helluva lot more so than O could ever hope to be. Hands on, down in the trenches leaders who inspire their constituents with their deeds rather than with hollow rhetoric. |
