Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Saturday, October 25. 2008Saturday morning linksThe Pension Benefit Guarantee Corp lost 4.8 billion in the stock market last year. Why are they in the stock market anyway? Did you know that Obama said this in a church: "I am confident we can create a Kingdom right here on earth"? That's the sign of a false prophet. Preventing a nuclear Chavez. WSJ Video If McCain loses, I will agree with this explanation. Where will Obama get the trillions he wants to spend? (h/t, View from 1776) Campaign fund-raising fraud. Journalism Rule #1: Obama gets a pass on everything. (Rule #2: Destroy Palin.) Stupidonomics at the NYT, with an ice cream shop "We have to do this for Ted." No, let's not do this for Ted. We need not honor a man who has spent many of his waking hours trying to get into some young girl's pants. Any honor that he has received has been one honor too many. He has been wrong on most of the issues of his life; immigration has been a principal mistake. Kennedy's contributions to the Judiciary Hearings for Supreme Court selections have been reprehensible. Socialized medicine would be the crowning glory for a career filled with Leftist delusion. We all must die. How does Mr. Kennedy's impending death change the irreparable damage his leadership has caused?
That's what Congress is saying. I think it's a disaster wating to happen.
What John McCain needs to do now, I’m thinkin’, is make a request of all the media outlets from whom Øbama has purchased airtime for his ½ hour speech from the Øbal Office; humbly request that they honor the impending Fairness Doctrine under which they will labor after their Endorsee is flown into the White House on his tragic carpet ride to power. After all, this is what they want. McCain can say, “Let’s practice what The Øne preaches.”
Should he get the time, this is what he should say, I humbly opine: “Tonight I want to speak to that group of people who make up my staff around the country, the volunteers, my supporters – those of you who have donated your time, and those who donate your money; those of you who have put up lawn signs, and those of you who quietly go about your business from day to day and plan to vote for Sarah and I on Election Day – and also I want to speak directly to the larger group of Americans who wish to listen to the grizzled war veteran who sits before you tonight asking for a half hour of your time – I want to speak to my fellow Americans. I want to share something with you. I want to tell you that I am very concerned about the future of this country of ours. Not just our financial future, but the very future of our Republic. Sure, the financial future is a very real concern, but I believe that this will pass. If we allow the free market system that gave birth to our nation and fueled our continued growth throughout our 232 years, then this will be like other challenges we have overcome throughout our history. Together, with hard work, sacrifice and perseverance, we will overcome this, like we have all our previous challenges. But make no mistake – this financial challenge that we now face lies squarely at the feet of the policies of my opponents Party and its leaders. Make no mistake about that, my friends. [Here he can name names at no extra cost, if time allows!] The real threat to our nation, however, is not merely a matter of money. We face a more grave threat today, and those of you who have been paying attention to the campaign know of what I am speaking. I am here tonight to tell you that I will not rest, I will not relent in my defense of this nation, I will not give up the battle begun so many years ago by men and women who pledged their sacred honor, sacrificed their security, indeed their very lives to give birth to a land of freedom and liberty that today finds itself under attack from enemies, both outside our borders and from within. I will not stand idly by while people stream over our borders with the intent to change the fabric of our society, to change a nation rather than, as earlier waves of proud immigrants came, to be changed by a nation. I will not give up the fight to protect this nation from the fundamentalist extremists who spend their every waking moment working to destroy America and all of Western Civilization. I will continue, as I have throughout my life, to live and breath for the future of my country. My friends, we have a choice to make in a week, a very critical and historical choice. On Election Day this year, we all have an important choice to make. We must determine together, as a nation, whether we will stand solidly upon the foundation that was so painstakingly crafted, hewn with the blood and promises of our Founding Fathers, and all the brave soldiers who fell into their footsteps, confident that they, too, were making the right choice. Or we must choose to blow it all up and start over, as my opponent and his mentors, friends, and people that have influenced him throughout his life advocate doing. There should be no confusion about it, my friends, and there is no nice way to say it. And the harm in NOT saying it is too severe to try to avoid. As my mother always says, “You are known by the company you keep.” The people that my opponent has kept, the people that have kept him – The company that Barack Obama has kept throughout his adult life are not people who stand solidly upon the foundation built by our Founding Fathers. No, the nation that they envision, one resembling 1920’s Europe more than modern America, the nation of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, of Barney Frank and John Kerry, the nation of Reverend Wright and William Ayers, of Louis Farakhan and Barack Obama – that nation does not stand on the building blocks of George Washington and John Adams. Their ideal nation does not have the best interests of Joe the Plumber at heart. It does not have the memories of Bunker Hill and Normandy at heart. Theirs is a nation that needs to be knocked down and rebuilt according to their own socialist vision. Our vision, our America, is a solid nation that needs our vigilance, that needs our hard work and sacrifice. And it needs it now. Our country was built upon the ballot box. We need to protect this nation at the ballot box. We have a choice, America. Let’s choose America. Or something like that... And if the networks refuse his request, he just does a youtube and sends the text out to his list. Wouldn't that be nice?!
He should just buy the time in 15 second spots and the weekend before do a last blitz. The let's choose America line would be great. Question: Why are you not running McCain's media campaign? Answer: Because I refuse to write more than four "My friends" into a single address.
One amongst many reminders of priorities (tho I personally am campaigning every friend, relative, person I know even casually to vote for McCain/Palin (right now the two college puppies are teetering)

When the film Chariots of Fire was playing, people used the words of this hymn to warn about those terrible, scarey Muscular Christians wanting to take over America, but Obama is no Christian knight now. Just a used car salesman posing as preacher (and not a good preacher, even)
Jerusalem Hymn And did those feet in ancient time Walk upon England's mountain green? And was the holy Lamb of God On England's pleasant pastures seen? And did the countenance divine Shine forth upon our clouded hills? And was Jerusalem builded here Among those dark satanic mills? Bring me my bow of burning gold! Bring me my arrows of desire! Bring me my spear! O clouds, unfold! Bring me my chariot of fire! I will not cease from mental fight, Nor shall my sword sleep in my hand, Till we have built Jerusalem In England's green and pleasant land. You always do such a good job of providing interesting links. Thank you. I'm incorporating the one about Obama's church appearance in S.C. into my next post.
So much good stuff here. If this is true then Bush should be ****, for it will force Israel to act or perish.
BUSH TO ESTABLISHED DIPLOMATIC RELATIONS WITH IRAN McClatchy Newspapers WASHINGTON The Bush administration will announce in mid-November, after the presidential election, that it intends to establish the first U.S. diplomatic presence in Iran since the 1979-81 hostage crisis, according to senior Bush administration officials. The proposal for an "interests section," which falls short of a full U.S. Embassy, has been conveyed in private diplomatic messages to Iran, and a search is under way to choose the American diplomat who would head the post, the officials said. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said last month that he would consider the idea, which first surfaced over the summer. The U.S. had close ties to Iran's late shah, who was overthrown in 1979. Iran's ruling circles, however, are suspicious of U.S. attempts to expand its influence in the country. Earlier this month, an Iranian official said that Iran would refuse to allow a U.S.-based nonprofit group, the American-Iranian Council, to operate there even after it received a Treasury Department license to do so. Sen. Barack Obama, the Democratic presidential nominee, has criticized the Bush administration's penchant for not talking to U.S. enemies, and has indicated that he would hold direct talks, even with Ahmadinejad. Republican nominee Sen. John McCain has ridiculed Obama and his foreign policy as naive. Yet in his waning days in office, President Bush has authorized a more direct approach to Iran, sending Undersecretary of State William Burns to participate in six-nation nuclear talks with Iranian representatives in Geneva in July. Among other things, the U.S. diplomats in Tehran would facilitate cultural exchanges; issue visas for Iranians to travel to the U.S.; and engage in public diplomacy to present a more charitable view of the U.S. The U.S. and Iran don't have formal diplomatic relations, which were broken by President Carter in April 1980, following the November 1979 seizure of the U.S. Embassy in Tehran by Iranian students. U.S. interests in Iran are looked after by the Swiss. Iran has a small interests section in Washington under Pakistan's embassy, but it doesn't include any Iranian diplomats. Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said in New York in July that Iran would insist on a quid pro quo for permitting a U.S. interests section: approval of its standing request for direct flights between Tehran and New York. While some senior officials said Bush and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice haven't made a final decision, they and others indicated that the mid-November announcement is a near-certainty. IF TRUE THEN BUSH SHOULD BE ****.

Ahmadinejad is ill. So says the news. He has taken ill due to 'exhaustion'. He's taken ill because the people can't stand him and he has to save face (for Iran) no matter what. I see a lot of things moving beneath the radar here. I think they are so afraid Israel will let loose on them before Jan. 20 that they had to make this move. ` |
