We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

PITTSBURGH -- A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, police said.
Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.
Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.
Richard said the woman refused medical treatment after the assault, which happened outside the view of the bank's surveillance cameras.
The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes.

Good Shakespeare the other day. Here's a good one from Lord of The Rings.
"Hold your ground, hold your ground! Sons of Gondor, of Rohan, my brothers! I see in your eyes the same fear that would take the heart of me. A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of woes and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West. Good stuff! Could substitute America for West
I think the polls are wrong. I just read an article about the pollster who came closest to getting '04 corrrect.
That poll shows less than 2 pts ( if I remember ) separating the two. I'll try to find it.
We need to turn out ,We can Win. The we can go to work on feeding the Rep. Party some vitiamin B-12.

Eliminating 25 million Americans
That was the plan of the Weather Underground after taking power. The same Weather Underground headed by Barack Obama's friends William Ayers and Bernadine Dohrn, the people in whose house he launched his political career, and with whom he has worked and spoken on the subject of educational reform.
Confederate Yankee discovered a video clip of testimony given by former Weather Underground member/FBI informant Larry Grathwohl, in which he speaks the following chilling words:
I asked, "well what is going to happen to those people we can't reeducate, that are diehard capitalists?" and the reply was that they'd have to be eliminated.
And when I pursued this further, they estimated they would have to eliminate 25 million people in these reeducation centers.
And when I say "eliminate," I mean "kill."
Twenty-five million people.
I want you to imagine sitting in a room with 25 people, most of which have graduate degrees, from Columbia and other well-known educational centers, and hear them figuring out the logistics for the elimination of 25 million people.
And they were dead serious.
I suppose it is possible that Ayers and Dohrn have changed their political thinking, but they have remained publicly silent, and indeed have indicated no regret at all about their revolutionary past or goals.
I don't believe it is simple paranoia to wonder about handing the presidency to a man who doesn't see anything wrong with working together with these people, and who has already had his campaign attempt to shut down opponents by means legal and otherwise.
Watch the testimony yourself:
Do not expect any reporter with access to Obama to ask him about the relationship with Ayers and Dohrn and their intent to cleanse America of opponents.

Thanks a lot, BD. One of the reasons I dumped my TV was because every time I saw the grim mouth of Greta Susteren, I couldn't get an erection for a month. I think the sight paralyzes my pituitary gland because it's so near my eyes. I learned that on 'House MD'.
Otherwise, cool post. The only error was his stating Biden made fourteen "factual" mistakes during the debate, whereas the number was only three or so, like that Articles mix-up. The rest were open to interpretation.
Otherwise, sign me up for the 'Newt in 2012' ticket. Back when I had a TV (before the grim mouth of Greta Susteren ruined my life), I kept about half of O'Reilly's show muted, but never the Newt spots.
Newt Gingrich was my Representative to Congress. After he left office, I had taken my family to Washington, D.C. for vacation. As we were walking from the National Mall around the backside of The Capitol Building, Newt was on the rear balcony doing a photo-shoot. I yelled up to him and he stopped his photography session to exchange a few words and give the family a chance to say hello and snap a picture.
