Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Sunday, October 19. 2008Powell's EndorsementHe claims it's not about race, then proceeds to make a series of statements that make little sense outside a racial context:
The linked story, which refers to Powell as "one of the country's most respected Republicans" -- an odd choice of an adjective in light of Powell's reputation having been knocked down and dragged through the mud by the left after his WMD testimony -- also features the following curious quote:
No, that's what we'd be looking at with a Republican administration. Assuming that Powell knows that the House and Senate will have substantial Democrat majorities as well, this "Republican" is voting for the Democrat on the basis that he would have "difficulty" with conservative justices? It's been well known for years that Powell leaned toward the left on most domestic issues, and this charade of continuing to call Powell a "respected Republican" is wearing more than a little thin. More from NE Republican. The Left is already rejoicing at the news, despite the fact that some of the the very same people spent endless hours cataloging Powell's alleged lies and deceptions to the UN in 2003, essentially destroying the man's public reputation.

As a commenter at Tigerhawk suggests, by proclaiming his loyalty to The One, perhaps the inquisitors in the Obama administration will now pass over Powell when they convene the War Crimes Trials for Bush administration officials?
I think Powell has been more Democrat than Republican for many years. And I think the disingenuous timing of his announcement of support for Mr. O is proof positive of this. He's the Democrat's token "Republican with conscience guy." I gave up on him several years ago.
Good comment, feeblemind. We don't want to forget that the Congressional Democrats plan wholesale Congressional investigations of the more prominent Bush administration officials after the election. For treason. Just to discourage weak-kneed Republicans from ever running for office under the Republican flag again. Marianne feeblemind, I hope they put me on trial too. I shall insist on it.
As to the welcoming of Powell, simple liberal tribalism is sufficient explanation. They want to be in power. They have no other principles. What's the problem? Mr. Powell, the new Democrat.
Since it isn't about race what did he factor inot his choice. The elusive and unknowable "future". What he did do is endorse Obamas choice of associates that fromed ,and continue to support his radical agenda. An agenda so camoflaged by the MSM and record TV spending and spinning that we will never know the truth. GO TO the polls and send the non racial people back to the hood. One more thing. If white crackers hadn't bent over backwards to intergrate this society since Brown v Board then Obama wouldn't have a had a chance. But we gave blacks everything, they agitated, we migrated , but in the end we gave, gave , gave, soecial program after special program. Now poor Michelle will have to suffer (if they win ) the indignity of living in the White House, how insulting. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
When someone chided me of the "well informed group" you have here on Maggie's Farm, I didn't realize that "well informed" was code for racist inbred hillbillies. I thought you were required by Your Doctrine to capitalize Øne, as in When Some Øne chided me, or, more familiarly, The Øne, That Øne, Øbama! (I get a chill up my leg just typing it!!)
How much they paying you to troll? First campaign in Internet History to put Trolls on the payroll... man, that Øne guy is bleeding real money through his Stigmata! McCookie, ya can't slight us inbreds for the sexual proclivities of our parents.
Just as, no one here is blaming the fact BHusseinO is a melatto bastard sired by a Muslim. In Islam even bastards sired by Muslim are Muslim by birth. That Hussein is a Muslim bastrd aint his doing but it is his nature. Colon Powell says, it shouldn't disqualify him from the presidency, because he is his Negro bro. General Powell as Secretary of State was not exactly the loyal and faithful soldier and servant of his President. Mr. Powell has always had a liberal itch to his fingers and in his domestic policy viewpoint. I am not surprised that he has discovered his "roots" as a liberal supporting a guy who would be more comfortable with Karl rather than Groucho.
"...code for racist inbred hillbillies."
Somebody left the barn door open and a jackass came in... Stupid and stubborn, all in one animal. Mother nature has some sense of humor. By jackass, of course you mean the guy that wrote this...
QUOTE: But we gave blacks everything, they agitated, we migrated , but in the end we gave, gave , gave, soecial program after special program. No? Oh. I see, you don't like it when someone points out the blatant racism of your hive mind here at Maggie's Farm for the Retarded? Oh well, carry on with your racist hillbilly politics there Cletus. Fido,
Can you delineate the racism in that statement for me, please? If you could be exact, I would appreciate it. I seem to lack some understanding of the term 'racism'. Thanks! ` McCookie, Habu was dropped on his head during basic and hasn't been quite hillbillie right, since.
Hillbillie nature is to share even with the inbreds but when Muslim bastards come around a line is drawn in the sand. Well said, especially the note on hypocrisy there toward the end.
This was just the last nail in the coffin of my ever-decrasing disappointemtn with General Powell.
I've never liked Powell. Nor his doctrine. Weak is the first word that comes to mind when I think of him. Calling him a Republican when all he did was take jobs under a Republican administration was always a leap. It's just that only now has he worked up the nerve to declare his true leanings. And maybe help himself procure some sort of Cabinet or State position under 'o'.
You noticed he made it a point during the presser after his announcement to state he was 'still a republican'? As if to point out what a big deal it was for a republican to turn to Obama - a sacrifice for the greater good.
I don't think he had to work up his nerve so much as to wait for the most perfect timing. He was also for the Iraq war though he's stated it was not done well. In an odd twist, this hurts Obama a little. If you think in terms of character and one's actions, Powell has little to be proud of, especially as a military man who pledges honor above all else. ` "especially as a military man who pledges honor above all else"
Ouch! And for good reason you say that, Meta. And no, I hadn't noticed that bit about 'still' being a Republican. Horseshit. The only greater good CP has known has been his own career advancement. And now... what may be possible under an 'o' administration. Yes, most often timing is everything. Are we to believe that CP just now decided on the stronger horse? Doubtful. I gave up on Powell as I left Kuwait in 1991 with the job half done. Read his book - he failed to convince me that leaving Saddam in power was anything except a costly mistake.
He easily could have been our first black President but he didn't have the desire. Judging by his book and his career, he never developed a real political ideology either. Actually, appointing non-liberal Supreme Court justices is one the best reasons to vote for McCain. The Supreme Court has been far saner in recent years, largely due to having fewer liberals on it. Why would we want it full of liberals again?
So Powell has it completely backwards. He is essentially a Democrat in his beliefs. "You don't need a weatherman to tell which the wind blows"
All this knocking of CP; I think Powell has been more Democrat than Republican for many years. Mr. Powell, the new Democrat. He was never a Republican and I never respected him. General Powell as Secretary of State was not exactly the loyal and faithful soldier and servant of his President(His common sense not his politics prevailed,IMO)He gets a credit for that! He was never a Republican and I never respected him. I've never liked Powell. Nor his doctrine. Weak is the first word that comes to mind. That is a laugh. I gave up on Powell as I left Kuwait in 1991 with the job half done.......IMO they left Saddam to leave some sort of stability. What would ya'll be sayin if he had endorsed Mccain? ? ? ? It really gets furstrating with all the baloney sh*t slinging.Having said that so goes elections. "You don't need a weatherman to tell which the wind blows" Like CP or not he's deserves more respect!IMO Good luck to you all,RL What you expect people that revel in stupidity and claim that intelligence is a sign of "elitists" to actually not have a double standard here?
If Powell had endorsed McCain, these same intellectually dishonest inbreds would be praising the honor of Powell not endorsing Obama, probably with inflammatory words like "unrepentant terrorist" "muslim" and whatever else their drug addled, thrice divorced, draft dodging hero Rush told them to say. Who's this 'Rush' character Fido? Friend of yours?
Fido,
You might have missed my question. I'll just repost it here: ~~~ By jackass, of course you mean the guy that wrote this... QUOTE: But we gave blacks everything, they agitated, we migrated , but in the end we gave, gave , gave, soecial program after special program. No? Oh. I see, you don't like it when someone points out the blatant racism of your hive mind here at Maggie's Farm for the Retarded? If you could be exact, I would appreciate it. I seem to lack some understanding of the term 'racism'. Thanks! ` #7.1.1 Meta on 2008-10-19 22:51 (Reply) They left Saddam in 1991 because it was the easy thing to do and to appease our Arab "allies" who did nothing in that war except let us save their skins. It was wishful thinking, laziness, and cowardice and we paid dearly for it.
Respect is earned RL. CP hasn't done much in that way to earn mine. Just the way I see it.
Powell knew almost from the start that his own deputy, Richard L. Armitage, was the one who outed Valerie Plame, but instead of firing him or reporting him to the President as was his duty, Powell let the special prosecutor's investigation drag on and Scooter Libby become entrapped. Powell's cowardice gets no respect from me. He owed it to the President to take care of business but instead he let the affair become an undeserved blot on the Presidency.
What puzzles me is how Powell has always managed to escape being called an Oreo by the Sharptons and Jesse Jacksons of the world. Such people have shown no hesitation in using that nasty, contemptible word to demean Dr. Condoleezza Rice. What is it about Powell that accords him such different treatment? Could it be that no one has ever really considered him to be a Republican, that it's all been camouflage? Powell's own military doctrine was cowardice in that the only time you go to war is with overwhelming force which pretty much just ensures that you'd never ever go to war and mess up that pretty military machine.
Good riddance and go ahead and be honest and quit calling yourself a Republican. It will be SWEET justice when all these RINOs and NE 'conservative' snobs who've been abandoning McCain in droves due to some 'conservative' principle betrayal or another find themselves on the outside looking in when McCain wins. Good riddance to all of them as well. I hope McCain shows a nasty streak by giving them the stiff arm.
They're more loyal to their precious cocktail parties and popularity than any real principle. If nothing else, this election is serving the purpose of flushing out all this feces from the conservative movement. Keep flushing like that phil g. and pretty soon you'll be the only floater left in the bowl.
The only way brand R can rebuild into effective opposition and leadership is through effective opposition and leadership. Eisenhower, Goldwater, Reagan – that kind of stuff. No more yahoos in government until government becomes obsolete.
Poor Powell has now solidified his chair as chief Judas of the twenty first century.
